The tracklist pays tribute to the eponymous landmark album from 1967, The Velvet Underground & Nico. Contributor Kurt Vile performs a cover of “Run Run Run,” which he recorded on the road with a mobile studio. Regarding the song, he spoke with Rolling Stone:

“Lou Reed/the Velvet Underground were probably my earliest classic rock influence. I loved it . . . . When you hear music like that, so organic and raw, but you know, so confident, all those things combined, [it’s] so cool. So unapologetic. It just has an effect on you that you can’t even necessarily detect at the moment.”
