The soundtrack listing for New Moon, the latest installment in the fangirl-insanity-inducing Twilight series, has been released, and as previously insinuated, it is pretty indie-tastic, with the likes of Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Swedish enigma Lykke Li, the Jay-Z-beloved Grizzly Bear, and the one-two punch of Bon Iver and St. Vincent backing up Death Cab For Cutie’s lead single “Meet Me On The Equinox.” Muse is also contributing a remix of a song from their new album The Resistance, although Matt Bellamy sure sounds like he wanted to take the path of least, um, resistance when getting on the record: “He wants a rendition of that, but the only thing with the new film is they want the songs to be exclusive to the film. Today’s Internet curio that should hold your attention for at least 10 minutes: Yooouuutuuube, a Flash-heavy site that breaks down clips frame-by-frame, shrinks those frames down, then creates a huge matrix of flipbooks, each going through the embedded video on its own timetable. Internet-beloved Swedish pop tartlet Lykke Li’s “I’m Good, I’m Gone” soundtracked the Ford ad on last night’s American Idol, thus proving that the show can actually appreciate something about the late-oughts (and actually sounding OK as a group sing, thanks to all the vocal layering). I was hoping that this would be a prelude to an announcement that next week’s theme would be Great Songs Written By Scandinavian Pop Geniuses, with guest mentor Max Martin–but alas, the Top Five will instead sing “Rat Pack Standards,” which I guess gives Matt Giraud yet another excuse to wear a hat. Well, I no longer live in student housing, Rilo Kiley is unfortunately not in the building, and I’ll play the modesty card and argue that I’m not nearly as hilarious as Maura suggests, but yes, here I am again in the mtvU blogging pit (of doom). Oh, it’s not all that bad. The music is really loud and the table is far too high (or maybe it’s the chairs that are too low) to type comfortably, but the staff is very friendly and there are free mini-hamburgers so we’ll call it even.
