Second Spin: The Skygreen Leopards’ California Love

skygreenleps.jpgWe harped on the Skygreen Leopards’ Disciples of California last September, just a few weeks before it came out and was rapturously received by absolutely no one. So we figured we’d try once more to get you to listen to the Leps, as their penchant for writing actual melodies makes them stand out in an overcrowded field of folk-psych yelpers:

All sorts of albums these guys are involved with. In fact I think I got side-project 342 in the mail the other day. (There’s some Wooden Wand connection I’m forgetting as well…)

  • Emerson Dameron

Skygreen Leopards were WW’s backup band on one of the dozens of albums he’s released. As with his, the quality of their output varies wildly, but this stuff… not bad. Still a little bit Brian Jonestown-y for my tastes, but not bad.

a little bit Brian Jonestown-y for my tastes,

I don’t really hare it, unless these guys enjoy kicking fans in the head and getting taken to jail for the weekend.

And this band has one of the best names I have ever heard, while the name BJTM is approximately 178.6 times less clever then the person who made it up (i’m presuming it was the headkicker) thinks it is.
