Jay Z Still #1, ‘Teen Beach Movie’ In Top 10 & Pet Shop Boys Land Highest-Charting Album In 20 Years

Just 'Beach'-y
Yes, Jay Z (now sans the hyphen) is #1 on the Billboard 200 for a second week with Magna Carta Holy Grail (which sold another 129,000 copies). And yes, Sara Bareilles landed at #2 with The Blessed Unrest (68,000), making it her third Top 10 album in a row. And the soundtrack to the Disney Channel’s latest epic, Teen Beach Movie, popped in at #8 (25,000), while Cody Simpson‘s second studio album, Surfers Paradise, has become his first Top 10 entry, at #10 (24,000).

But the real triumph (in my eyes, at least) is the Pet Shop Boys going in at #26 with 12th studio album Electric (per their official website). Just days after it became the duo’s highest-charting LP in the UK since 1993′s Very, Electric has repeated the same feat here in the States. (Very peaked at #20 on the Billboard 200 two decades ago.) It’s now the pair’s seventh album to go Top 40 in America, and their first to do so since 2009′s Yes entered at #32. Not bad for the first release on the Pet Shop Boys’ own label, x2.
