“Drunk In Love” just can’t win. The meme-spawning phenomenon was recently snubbed in all major categories at The Grammys and could be removed from the radio for good if a miffed Hungarian diva has her way. Mitsou (real name Monika Miczura) contends that Beyonce, Jay Z and Timbland sampled her 1995 Roma folk song “Bajba, Bajba Pelem” in the mega-hit’s mysterious intro and is demanding compensation — as well as a radio ban until her voice is removed.

It seems unlikely that a producer of Timbaland’s standing would get it so wrong but Mitsou is adamant that it’s her voice at the beginning of the track, and insists that she never gave her permission for the sample. She is also really upset that her song has been used “to evoke foreign eroticism alongside the sexually intense lyrics.” It seems the original was an introspective piece about hopelessness. Awkward.
