Sam Smith is re-releasing debut LP In The Lonely Hour on November 6. The Drowning Shadows Edition packs a whopping 23 songs over two discs, but there are only a couple of new tunes — a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Love Is A Losing Game” and the title track. Produced by Jimmy Napes and Steve Fitzmaurice, “Drowning Shadows” finds the Grammy winner pining for something a little more substantial than a one night stand.

“I feel like the city’s got the better of me, Oh this casual love isn’t what it seems,” Sam wails over an elegant orchestral arrangement. “And I try to imagine something closer and somebody who is good for me.” The Brit’s vocal is typically impressive and the overall effect is pleasant on the ears, but I feel like I’ve already heard this ballad several times before. And I preferred it with a gospel tinge. Listen to the superstar’s latest below.
