Mike Posner Performs Comeback Hit “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” Live On The ‘Tonight Show’: Watch
Six years after his first — and what once was looking like his last — big hit, “Cooler Than Me,” Mike Posner reinvented himself as a songwriter for hire, and penned such snappy tunes as Justin Bieber‘s “Boyfriend” and Maroon 5‘s “Sugar.” The 28 year old is experiencing quite a renaissance as a pop star in his own right, however, as the SeeB remix of Posner’s nearly-year-old single “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” recently shot to the top of the UK chart and unexpectedly dropped the singer back in the Top 10 here in the States, for only the second time.
Sealing the deal on his comeback, Mike swung by the Tonight Show recently, where he turned out a showstopping performance of “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” with The Roots. (Again, who would have ever thought?) But despite the song’s somber lyrics, it’s not all doom and gloom for Posner.
“If I write a sad song it doesn’t mean I am a sad person. It means I have sad feelings and I was expressing those that day, that part of that day,” he told Idolator recently. “‘Ibiza’ is a shade of me. It’s not an inauthentic shade. I wrote it and I meant it and I still do. What I always say is, ‘I’m a rainbow’, and that song is a color… I just have to remind myself and other people I am a rainbow. The blue is not all of who I am.”
