Christmas Comes Early: Pentatonix Announces Holiday Tour & NBC Special

A cappella power group Pentatonix have staked a claim on Christmas 2017 in a big way. The quartet has announced plans for a holiday tour to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. Kicking off with a string of shows in Chicago on December 3, they’ll travel across North America before brining the tour to a close with a set in New York City on December 21. The group also signed a contract with NBC to produce a new holiday show similar to 2016’s A Pentatonix Christmas Special. Last year’s event saw them perform alongside Kelly Clarkson and Reba McEntire and brought in a combined 10 million views across two air times. Hopefully they’ll recapture the magic this time around.

That is not all though! They are also set to unleash a deluxe edition of their 2016 holiday album A Pentatonix Christmas. Although it was their third Christmas album in as many years, the standard edition topped the charts through the beginning of 2017 and included updated takes on classics including “Oh Come, All Ye Faithful.” The new collection is set to drop on October 20 and is already available for pre-order, but there is no confirmation on the official track list or if there will be new recordings on the record. The group is notably absent on the updated cover, though the backdrop remains the same as their 2016 release.

This will be one of their first official outings since parting ways with bass Avi Kaplan. The 28-year-old announced that he was leaving the group earlier this year to be closer to his family and to pursue some solo projects. In June he released an EP’s worth of material. This year several other members of the group have taken some time off for individual projects as well. Kirstin Maldonado unleashed a standalone EP and Scott Hoying and Mitch Grassi formed SUPERFRUIT, a splinter group that has plans to release a second collection of songs later this year. Though they are experimenting on their own, it is nice to know that they quartet will always have the holiday season to remind them of their beginnings.
