DJ Khaled Teams Up With Chris Brown, Future, August Alsina & Jeremih For “Hold You Down”: Watch

Baby, You Smart
DJ Kahled, who is gearing up for the release of his eighth studio album I Changed A Lot, is known to roll with quite the eclectic posse. This time around is no exception. After dropping “They Don’t Love You No More” with rapper heavyweights like Jay Z, Rick Ross, Meek Mill and French Montana back in April, the “We The Best” beatsmith is now serving up his latest R&B single “Hold You Down,” which features Chris Brown, Future, August Alsina and Jeremih.

The Gil Green-directed visual is laden with the usual Khaled staples as the R&B all-stars serenade their ride-or-die baes over the track’s baby-making melody — a beautiful mansion, cigar smoke, and, of course, a lot of really sexy women.  What’s more, the super producer not only shamelessly plugs his “We The Best Sound” headphones, but also gets to show off his acting chops, which are hilarious to say the least. OutKast To Headline BET Experience 2014

OutKast has added yet another date to its 40-plus date festival tour: June 28, at this year’s three-day BET Experience in Los Angeles. The Atlanta hip hop duo will headline and perform alongside current chart heavyweights Rick Ross, A$AP Rocky and K. Michelle.

BET Experience, the network’s answer to radio festivals like Hot 97′s Summer Jam, kicks off June 27 with performances by Future and an R&B all-star roster: Maxwell, Jill Scott, Marsha Ambrosius and Candice Glover. The Roots will perform the following night with “special guests.” while Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson and Trey Songz will help close the festival. And, in a move that surprisingly hasn’t been done yet, DJ Khaled will host. More »

Rick Ross, Diddy, T.I. & More Rep DJ Khaled’s “I Feel Like Pac, I Feel Like Biggie” Video: Watch

Rozay Goes Big
DJ Khaled assembled an album’s worth of all-stars on his Suffering From Success cut “I Feel Like Pac, I Feel Like Biggie,” and the whole posse shows up for the video (as does Paula Deen). Rick Ross, Diddy, T.I., Swizz Beatz and Meek Mill all appear in the black-and-white clip along with old clips of 2Pac and The Notorious B.I.G.

While we’re unsure how we feel about Khaled and co. framing themselves alongside the two hip-hop icons, this is a legit banger — Tip’s collage of Big and Pac references being the highlight. Plus, it’s cool to see some old footage of the late rappers. Check it out up top. More »

Kanye West Won’t Face Felony Charges For Paparazzi Tussle: Morning Mix

Did You Hear?

:: Kanye West will sleep better tonight knowing he doesn’t face felony attempted robbery charges for his tussle with renowned troublemaker/paparazzo Dano. Yeezy might still want to book himself into an anger management class because the paps aren’t going away any time soon. [Billboard]

:: Have some spare cash lying around? Why not invest it in Nick Carter‘s crowd-funded horror movie Evil Blessings? Because that strikes me as a totally safe investment. [Complex]

:: Major Lazer call on some of their celebrity friends for the band’s “Scare Me” video. It features Peaches, dancehall diva Timberlee and Terry Crews among other famous names. Given Diplo‘s taste for twerkin’ expect some booty-clapping for sure. [BuzzFeed]

:: There’s no doubting that Celine Dion is a superstar but AEG’s defense is alleging she is bigger than Michael Jackson in his family’s wrongful death suit. Your thoughts in the comments below, please. [TMZ]

:: DJ Khaled loves him some Nicki Minaj. The rap mogul went as far as recording a video asking her to his wife. It’s sweet. She should totally consider it! [Vibe]

Nicki Minaj Takes You Behind-The-Scenes Of “#Twerkit”: Watch

Make It Clap!
Nicki Minaj, booty-clapper and occasional rapper, was recently called on to add a verse to Busta Rhymes‘ poetic new single “#Twerkit”. It wasn’t particularly good  (not that the song was great to start with) but at least she has an excuse. In behind-the-scenes footage, the scheduled BET performer reveals that she only had one day to record her vocal – and shoot the video.

We see the tracksuit-clad femcee doing her thing in the studio before shooting the breeze with DJ Khaled. The pair reunite on set the following day, where Nicki shakes her biggest asset and models some of the largest gold chains ever captured on film. A highlight is the “I’m Out” diva’s conversation with “#Twerkit” producer Pharrell in the parking lot. They talk about “Big Booty Judys” and working together again. More »

DJ Khaled’s “No New Friends” Video: Watch Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Drake Party Like It’s 1996

dj-khaled-no-new-friends
All In The (Very Rich) Family
DJ Khaled has dropped his new video for “No New Friends,” off his seventh album Suffering from Success. Filmed partially as if through the lens of a camcorder –think Lana Del Rey‘s “National Anthem” video — and timestamped, “May 15, 1996,” the Colin Tilley-directed video shows that while technology has evolved, displays of hip-hop opulence are (apparently) timeless.

Mansion with a pool and hot tub? Check. Product placement? Check. Bored dancing girls? Check. While Drake repeats the hook ad nauseum, he does take the wheel of a Jeep and ease into a bubble bath, as the rest of his crew (Birdman, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross) idly hang out by a helicopter landing and at a banquet table.

In short: the “No New Friends” video bears no new ideas, its biggest surprises being a five-second cameo by Fat Joe and DJ Khaled’s cell phone. Watch the video up top, and then after the jump, check out the “Firm Biz” video by the Firm (Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ) — a rap crew that was panned for being too commercial, but now seem far more exciting compared to Khaled’s friends. President Obama’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner: He Talks Jay-Z, References Taylor Swift

99 Problems, And Jay-Z's Now One
President Obama‘s relationship to pop culture is simple: He uses it to to disarm the public and reach beyond the politicians and otherwise Very Important People sitting before him. Every nod to rap still feels as revelatory as his 2008 Democratic primary speech and reference to Jay-Z‘s “Dirt Off Your Shoulders“; it says that he still sees minorities, youth and other overlooked sectors of the population.

Now five years later, at Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Obama showed that pop-friendly charm offensive — or, political campaign used to win supporters — hasn’t changed. This year, he moved on from referencing Young Jeezy‘s “My President Is Black” to DJ Khaled‘s “All I Do Is Win.” (“How do you like my new entrance music?” he asked, to an otherwise quiet crowd.) He also addressed Jay-Z and Beyonce‘s recent, controversial trip to Cuba, and addressed the hip-hop royal couple in a way that no other politician would have. More »

G.O.O.D. Music’s ‘Cruel Summer’ Tracklist Has Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, 2 Chainz & Lots Of Kanye West

Summer is almost over, and while we have had some good music, we have not yet had any G.O.O.D. Music. We are still awaiting the delayed compilation from Kanye West and friends, now scheduled to drop September 18. At least now we have a (rumored and unconfirmed) tracklist that looks pretty legit, assuring us that Jay-Z, Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Pusha T, and many more will be seeing summer out in style. Which is fine, as long as there are no more delays, because Cruel Fall just doesn’t have the same ring to it. See the tracklist below. More »

Fat Joe’s “Pride N Joy” Video Features Kanye West, Miguel, Busta Rhymes & More

The Hype Williams Vid Is Big On Cameos, Low On Action
Fat Joe lined up a roster of hip hop elite for his new single “Pride N Joy”, including Kanye West, Busta Rhymes, Miguel, Jadakiss, DJ Khaled, Mos Def and Roscoe Dash. Unfortunately, the visual is a bit of a snoozer, despite the appearances of Ashanti and some other scantily-clad babe walking around in heels. That’s surprising, too, since the clip was directed by music video heavyweight Hype Williams. The whole affair is basically said rappers against a blue background, some unmistakeable product placement for Nuvo sparkling liqueur and, well, that’s about it. Enjoy (?) above.

DJ Khaled, Kanye West & Rick Ross’ “I Wish You Would” & “Cold” Videos Will Cause Motion Sickness

We Advise Dramamine Before You Watch This Video
Hold onto something stable before pressing “play” on DJ Khaled, Kanye West and Rick Ross‘ “I Wish You Would” video — you might feel a little dizzy. If you’d rather not risk it, we’ll sum up the Hype Williams-directed clip for you: Khaled, Yeezy and Ross rap in a brick alleyway, often cloaked in darkness, as the camera mercilessly shakes back and forth. The vid for West’s Kim Kardashian-referencing “Cold” is tacked on at the end (complete with a blink-and-you-miss-it cameo by the socialite), filmed in the same location with the same seizure-inducing shakiness. We’re honestly baffled at the lack of creativity (and the lack of production value) displayed here — is this seriously the best these three big names (four if you count Williams) could deliver? We wish you would have tried harder.
