The releases from American Idol contestants from the days of yore just keep rolling out. The latest to enter the fray is “Say Love,” the new single from Season 2 alum Kimberly Caldwell. The pensive ballad is rife with angsty piano chords and Kim’s raspy Kelly-Clarkson-meets-Melissa-Etheridge rocker chick vocals.

Is it just us or is there a fairly strong “Free Fallin'” echo going on there?

Kimberly carved out a decent TV host career for herself in the seven years since belting it out alongside her fellow AI Season 2 hopefuls, and she’ll finally appease her fans this April by releasing her debut album, Without Regret. In addition to Caldwell writing four of the songs herself, Diane Warren, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Idol judge Kara DioGuardi also penned tracks for the LP. Here’s hoping Kim has a better relationship after doing business with Kara than Katy Perry does.

And if you find yourself feeling quite affectionate toward “Say Love,” you can grab it as a free download from Caldwell’s official site.
