Gwen Stefani’s “Baby Don’t Lie”: Hear Her Comeback Solo Single

Gwen Stefani‘s comeback single, “Baby Don’t Lie,” has surfaced online ahead of its rumored October 19 premiere date. The song itself, the No Doubt ringleader and Voice coach‘s first new solo music since 2006’s The Sweet Escape, is just as surprising.

“Uh huh, here we go,” Stefani says, and to this rubbery bass line and hand claps – this club-ready setting suggesting a sequel to the Pharrell-produced smash “Hollaback Girl.” Instead, “Baby Don’t Lie” mellows out into a mid-tempo pop song. Throughout, Stefani hiccups through her lyrics (“But there’s something behind those eyes/those eyes/that you can’t, that you can’t disguise/disguise”) like Rihanna does in 2012’s Sia-written “Diamonds,” save for the Love.Angel.Music.Baby-ready sung-rap breakdown. Take a listen below.

“Baby Don’t Lie” is co-written by Stefani along with producers Ryan Tedder, Benny Blanco and Noel Zancanella. The official music video will be directed by longtime collaborator Sophie Muller and released October 21 on Vevo.
