Today is a special one for New York City and David Bowie, as the city has now declared January 20th as “David Bowie Day.” The news was announced via the late icon’s Facebook page.

Mayor Bill de Blasio will read a proclamation at tonight’s final performance of the sold-out Lazarus — the New York Theater Workshop production that was conceived and co-created by Bowie (who passed away on January 10). The news comes after a SXSW co-founder made a makeshift “David Bowie” sign to add to the pre-existing “Bowie Street” in Austin a few days ago.

The artist’s posthumous career is currently booming, as 10 of his albums have either returned or made their debut on the Billboard 200. Last week, Amazon sold out of their stock of Bowie’s CD and vinyl copies.
