product-detail-topspin-snuggieNever one to let a good joke just settle, Weezer is packaging the deluxe editions of its new album Raditude with a Snuggie, the As Seen On TV “blanket with sleeves” that’s both functional (it really is pretty warm) and hilarity-inducing (ah, recession-era cable ads, the last bastion of UHF-style production values). Surely the amount of press that Weezer has received for this move will result in other artists borrowing from the ever-expanding world of cheap commercials. After the jump, we envision a few pairings. More »

lilwayneYou think Lil Wayne has just been sitting around worrying about whether or not his upcoming prison term will cost him his hair? Think again. Apparently he has a new mixtape, No Ceilings, set to come out this week; one track that’s leaked from it so far is his freestyle over Jay-Z’s Rihanna/Kanye collab “Run This Town,” which is after the jump. Weezer Throw A Hootenanny

4005373_160x90Weezer’s video for the still-insanely-catchy “If You’re Wondering If I Want You To (I Want You To)” dispenses with their recent Internet obsession and drops the band into an old-timey setting—in a land populated only by dudes of various ages who, curiously, all resemble Weezer’s members to varyingly creepy degrees. But then a woman arrives, and wreaks a predicable amount of bloody havoc. There’s even a scene where somebody gets hit by a car, which I think makes the whole “vehicular injury” motif an official musicvideo trend? Clip after the jump. More »

Weezer F. Baby: Lil Wayne Uses The Latest “Rebirth” Delay As A Chance To Bro Down With Rivers Cuomo

57086874In the latest installment of “Lil Wayne’s Rock Album Is Really Never Going To Come Out, But At Least It’s Giving Me Something To Write About,” the tongue-twisting MC’s foray into the world of guitars, Rebirth, has been delayed from Nov. 24 to Dec. 15. Which I guess freed his schedule up enough to allow him to lend a verse to Raditude, the forthcoming bit of comment bait from Weezer! Rivers Cuomo talked to MTV News about the pairing: More »

Statler And Waldorf Prepare Their Best Balcony Critiques For “Muppets Remastered”

statler_waldorfThe beloved motley crew known as the Muppets will continue its curious hookups with the pop-music world next year with the release of Muppets Remastered, a covers album on which artists of today will cover Muppets-warbled tunes of yore. According to a Muppets fansite two tracks on the comp have been announced: Weezer will pay homage to its music-video co-stars with their take on “The Rainbow Connection,” while the Fray is going to take on “Mahna Mahna” (which I fear will have the unfortunate side effect of putting poor old Rowlf to sleep). I guess it wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to think that the always-synergistic Lady GaGa will somehow be involved—perhaps she will sing, and perform a water ballet, to “Miss Piggy’s Fantasy”, and thus spark a big Lady-on-Miss row? chocolateweez1Just in time for the arguing over their Top 500 Tracks Of The Decade list to die down, the folks at Pitchfork have put together another end-of-the-oughts ranking for people to nitpick—this time, a list of the 50 best music videos of the past 10 years. More »

What If Weezer’s “Raditude” Is An Album Title Created By/For/On the Internet?

chocolateweezIn the wake of releasing a pretty decent new track yesterday, Weezer has announced the title of its forthcoming seventh album, and it has already riled up the corners of the Internet that like to get upset about these sorts of things. Calling it Raditude kind of helped! More »

Weezer: Giving The People What They Want

weezinI have been pretty unthrilled by Weezer’s output as of late, but their new single, the parenthetical-wielding “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To,” is surprisingly catchy and not as cloying as some of the other songs that they’ve been unleashing on the public as of late. “(Want)/Want” is a 3:30-and-out bit of powerpop that’s peppy and snappy, with a little bit of a bottle-assist on percussion, and I can see it becoming one of those songs that achieves omnipresence via use in film and TV medleys very soon. Hear it before it gets used in a lot of rom-coms after the jump! More »
