‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Arena Tour Canceled: See The Cast’s Pissed-Off Reactions
Michelle Williams, JC Chasez and Incubus star Brandon Boyd were to star in the latest production of Jesus Christ Superstar, a 50-plus date U.S. arena tour. But on May 30, just a week prior to its debut in New Orleans, the tour was canceled due to low ticket sales.
“It became obvious the shows were in trouble but we tried until the last moment to give it every chance to turn around,” Michael Cohl, its promoter, said to The New York Times. He wasn’t exaggerating about the timing, either – its stars were rehearsing up until May 29, then told they were out of work the next day. “What’s that Miley Cyrus song, ‘Wrecking Ball’?” said Ben Forster, who was to play Jesus. “I feel like someone just came in and took a big wrecking ball to the Jesus Christ Superstar tour.”
All ticket sales will be refunded, according to the production’s official website. While Williams has yet to comment on the tour’s cancellation, other members of its cast and 300-member crew got together to pose for Twitter – with middle fingers high in the air. See for yourself after the jump.
