Zayn Signs To RCA Records
Congratulations are in order for Zayn Malik, who now has a solo deal.

I knew you were trouble when you walked in, One Direction, and dropping a new single unannounced at 1 a.m. just proves it!

And so here we have “Drag Me Down,” the first new song from the UK boy band since the early 2015 departure of one Zayn Malik. Interesting timing, too, lads, given that this bombshell comes a day after it was officially announced that Malik signed a global, solo recording deal with RCA Records.

Also, “Drag Me Down”? Like, these four are richer than God at this point and banging prime ass in the presidential suite — the only thing that perhaps could drag them down is the HMRC? Oh, just kidding.

Anyway, what were we talking about? Oh, right..

…and now that that’s out of the way, let’s move on to “Drag Me Down.”

So here’s a fine song that doesn’t sound like Taylor Swift‘s “I Knew You Were Trouble” mashed up with whatever Police song you want to select from the Police oeuvre at all, pop fanatics. Not at all.

But on a serious note, “Drag Me Down” comes across perhaps like the first One Direction song that might appeal to an audience outside of the band’s screaming core fan base. There’s just something about a sensitive bloke singing about redemption, no? Nobody, nobody can drag them down.

And it only took the departure of Zayn and a maybe-baby to get here. Well done, chaps! Bravo.
