5 Seconds Of Summer Pose Nude For ‘Rolling Stone,’ Talk Writing With Chad Kroeger
The latest issue of Rolling Stone features 5 Seconds Of Summer like you’ve never seen the group before.
For the cover (above), members Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Michael Clifford all pose nude, with messages like “RUN AWAY,” “TALK TALK TALK” and “EVERYBODY’S GOT THEIR DEMONS” scrawled on their bodies in red and black. And for the actual story, written by Patrick Doyle, the young Australian group with One Direction‘s investment talks their growing pains as their success eclipses that of Sum 41 and real-life mentors Good Charlotte — dealing with adult shit but also this preconceived notion that they are a boy band.
Not only do 5 Seconds of Summer bear a strong resemblance to their musical heroes (Blink-182‘s 2000 RS cover immediately comes to mind), but the band has gotten to work with some of said inspirations as well. That includes Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, who looked up “hot girls dancing” on YouTube to watch precisely that during a co-writing session — “a creepy dad-on-the-internet move,” says Ashton. This search for inspiration didn’t lend itself to a song that 5SOS could use: “It was just a fucking Nickelback song.”
