Calvin Harris, Frank Ocean & Migos’ “Slide” Is A Blurry-Eyed Banger

It’s been a banner week for unlikely club collaborations with Coldplay and The Chainsmoker teaming up for “Something Just Like This” and Alessia Cara lending her voice to Zedd’s “Stay.” Calvin Harris might trump both of them with “Slide,” a blurry-eyed banger featuring the increasingly-elusive Frank Ocean and two thirds of Migos. While the result isn’t as instant or commercial as mega-hits “Sweet Nothing” and “This Is what You Came For,” the mellow party anthem is refreshingly original.

“All this jewelry ain’t no use when it’s this dark,” Frank croons over melodic piano and choppy synths. “This my favorite part, we see the lights, they cut so far.” That takes us to the deceptively chorus, which takes a couple of listens to fully appreciate. “Do you slide on all your nights like this? Do you try on all your nights like this?” The track also benefits from druggy verses from Quavo and Offset. Time will tell if the club crowd takes to “Slide,” but I’m predicting a warm reception.
