Harry Styles’ “Sign Of The Times” Faces “Technical Issue” On Spotify
Harry Styles‘ debut solo single seems like a no-brainer hit. But fans are worried that a glitch on Spotify will impact its chart performance.
For several hours on April 7, the day Harry released “Sign of the Times,” the song wasn’t available on Spotify. Fans searched for the name “Harry Styles.” They checked the New Music Friday playlist. But even if “Sign of the Times” did pop up, the link to play was inactive.
A Spotify rep confirmed to Variety there was “a technical issue for both Free and Premium” users, though by then, folks could reinstall the app to “remove the cache” and fix the issue. By early evening yesterday (April 9), however, when Spotify tweeted its “Sign of the Times” link, some listeners still couldn’t play the song.
“Sign of the Times” did beat Adele‘s record for seizing the No. 1 spot on the iTunes singles chart. (It claimed the top slot in 19 minutes, versus an hour for “Hello.”) But Harry’s biggest fans — who, trust, are better at mobilizing people than some political parties — are upset that all their efforts might not be reflected on the charts.
@Spotify @Harry_Styles You screwed over a debut artists sales. One of the sweetest guys in the business and you fucked him over.

Over at the U.K., Ed Sheeran‘s “Galway Girl” and “Shape of You” topped Spotify’s streaming chart; Harry’s “Sign of the Times” ranked 14th.
