Katy Perry's 'Witness': Album Review
Katy Perry boldly explores club sub-genres on her banger-heavy new album.

Katy Perry came, saw and conquered Glastonbury yesterday (June 24). “Sitting here, enjoying some fries in disbelief that I just played a show to about 100,000 people at @glastofest that voluntarily showed up to see me,” the pop star wrote on Instagram after her energetic, hit-filled set that deftly blended new songs from Witness with a smattering of classic hits. “I had so much fun and as you can see gave you all of me, literally. I can’t wait to do it over and over again on Witness the tour. Thanks to @glastofest for helping me feel like, cool or whatever.”

While the setlist was almost identical to Katy’s recent livestream mini-concert, the staging was very different. Dressed in a bedazzled beige bodysuit (a hard look to pull off!), the hitmaker worked the massive stage with a little help from dancing TVs and props that ranged from feather boas to a giant blinking eye. She kicked off the show with “Hey Hey Hey,” which feels increasingly like the breakout pop moment on Witness. From there, the 32-year-old dived into the “Chained To The Rhythm” and the house-y title track of her new LP.

Next came the hits. Katy worked her way through “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “Dark Horse” and “ET,” before slowing things down with an acoustic version of “Thinking Of You.” That was followed by new ballad “Save As Draft,” which is somewhat confusingly being rolled out as a single for adult pop stations. After a double punch of “California Gurls” and “I Kiss A Girl,” the pop icon moved on to “Power” and the crowd-revving “Swish Swish.” That left “Roar” to cap another career highlight.
