Billie Eilish Deals With A Lover’s Disinterest On “wish you were gay”

At this point, it seems practically impossible for Billie Eilish to release a bad song. The 17-year-old has routinely left us in awe since dropping “Ocean Eyes.” This year, she’s gearing up to take things to the next level with the unveiling of her debut album – WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? Out March 29, it is one of my most anticipated projects for the year. She kickstarted the era with January’s haunting “bury a friend.” The nightmarish release rocketed into the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. And today (March 4), she offers up a second taste of the project with new single “wish you were gay.”

Another collaboration with brother Finneas O’Connell, it is about dealing with a lover’s disinterest. “I wrote this song about a guy that really was not interested in me, and it made me feel horrible. So the song is called ‘wish you were gay.’ And that’s so not meant to be offensive in any way,” Billie explained during an Instagram livestream last year. “It literally means that I wish he was gay so he didn’t like me for an actual reason instead of the fact that he didn’t like me.” Over another catchy production, the “come out and play’ hitmaker comes to grips with feeling unwanted.

“I just wanna make you feel okay. But all you do is look the other way. I can’t tell you how much I wish I didn’t wanna stay,” she croons. “I just kinda wish you were gay.” Press play on “wish you were gay” below!
