Katy Perry headlined Wednesday (November 4) night’s David Lynch Foundation benefit concert Change Begins Within at Carnegie Hall in Manhattan. Hosted by Good Morning America‘s George Stephanopoulous, the evening was a star-studded event that also saw Sting, Jerry Seinfeld, My Morning Jacket‘s Jim James, Angelique Kidjo and Sharon Isbin take their turns on stage, all for the cause of spreading word about the benefits transcendental meditation, and helping the organization Meditate New York to provide TM training to 10,000 local youths, veterans with PTS and women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

Wrapped in a gorgeous, peach-colored dress, Katy Perry, accompanied by an orchestra under musical director Rob Mathes, belted out string-filled reinterpretations of a handful of smashes, including “Roar,” “Teenage Dream,” “Wide Awake,” “Dark Horse” (during which she was joined by petite, intense violinist Margot) and “Firework.” For the latter, Perry was surrounded by four ballerinas on stage, lending a dramatic flair to the singer’s closing number.

More understated than Perry, though equally as dynamic, Sting effortlessly knocked the crowd out earlier in the evening with smooth renditions of “Englishman In New York,” “Fields Of Gold” and “Fragile.” The highlight of the 16-time Grammy winner’s four-song set came when he was accompanied by classical guitarist Sharon Isbin for a mesmerizing “Shape Of My Heart.”
