Sing hallelujah! La Toya Jackson returns to the music scene today (July 25) with catchy club anthem “Feels Like Love”. The stunning 58-year-old is perhaps better known for her best-selling books and hit reality TV show these days, but Toy first found fame in the family business. 1980 disco anthem “If You Feel The Funk” set the tone for her career but she became a veritable cult legend with scandal-pop classics “Sexbox” and “Sexual Feeling” later in the decade.
“Feels Like Love” is considerably more refined than those tunes but it’s still outrageous in its own kooky way. La Toya coos seductively about tearing up the dance floor with her man before serving dictator realness with a hilarious spoken interlude (“I want everyone in every country to stand up and do what I say!”). As for the video? The thinking man’s Jackson puts on a master class in glamor, allure and elegance. Watch up top. More »
We’re just going to set this here and quietly-but-quickly back away: It’s Joan Rivers being asked by TMZ at LAX about the current Israel/Palestine conflict. This alone prompted quite the tirade from Rivers, but TMZ being TMZ, they followed up a series of questions about Joan’s opinion on the launching of rockets and the loss of innocent lives by informing the comedienne about Selena Gomez “tweet[ing] a pro-Gaza” message. (Actually, what she said was, “Please pray for those families and babies today. Please always remember what’s important in life.”)
Joan was not having it and began to hurl insults at the “Come And Get It” singer, including, “Let’s see if she can spell Palestinian!” Watch below. More »
What’s a Mother Monster to do when she’s not busy raving and dancing with her Monsters on the ArtRave or forcing her french bulldog puppy Asia to pose for photos on Instagram? (#SaveAsia). She’s busy getting all jazzy on us, that’s what.
As we’ve known for a while, Lady Gaga is recording a pop standards record called Cheek To Cheek with the legendary Tony Bennett. The two have teamed up time and time again — most recently popping up during Bennett’s set at the Montreal Jazz Festival — while teasing tracks from the long-delayed duet record.
Last night, Gagaloo invited us into the studio (via Instagram) to show us that she’s still working on that new album. “Studio Rattin’ with the Bennett Boys,” she wrote on one photo. “It’s a Standard night #CheekToCheek,” she captioned another. “Dance with me, I want my arm about you.” (That line, of course, coming from the classic “Cheek To Cheek.”)
Check out more photos of the “Applause” goddess cutting tracks after the jump. Are you excited to hear Cheek To Cheek? More »
Hip hop’s biggest never-was, Azealia Banks, is currently without a label. And you know what — she doesn’t really give a flyig f***. The other day Twitter’s biggest bully posted a still from the video for her upcoming independently-released single “Heavy Metal And Reflective” (out July 29). And now we have a super-short preview clip of what’s sure to be the visual of the year — or at least of the hour the day it premieres. (It is Azealia Banks, after all — the long-lasting attention span of the masses doesn’t really enter the picture.)
Head below to watch the (t)rapstress ride by a camera on a motorbike in the desert and — what else? — flip the bird. More »
With Disclosure and Sam Smith‘s “Latch” now in the Top 10 (at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100) and Clean Bandit also rapidly climbing (#22 with “Rather Be” this week), the UK dance music invasion continues with a new player: Shift K3Y. The 21 year old (real name: Lewis Jankel) took his house/garage throwback single “Touch” to the upper reaches of the British chart earlier this year. Now the song is set for a stateside release on July 29, complete with an EP containing the radio edit and two remixes.
Shift K3Y also has two stateside shows lined up for next week, in New York and Los Angeles. Catch the dates for those below, and watch the colorful video for “Touch” up above. More »
And now, for their next act in proving their impending pop culture dominance…
Following their performance on Today, Australian pop-punk troupe 5 Seconds Of Summer took to the stage of Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to perform some of their biggest hits off of their chart-topping self-titled debut.
The set included their aching Top 20 ballad “Amnesia,” along with “She Looks So Perfect” and, as a bonus, album track “Beside You.”
The boys sounded fantastic live and brought their usual energy to the stage. (But then again, it’s probably hard to hear much of anything over those shrieks from the audience.) Check out 5SOS performing “Amnesia” up top, then check out the other performances after the jump. More »
Ryan Tedder wrangled up his OneRepublic mates for an early morning performance on Today, which included the band banging out “Ordinary Human,” a contribution to feature film The Giver. Clearly no one told Tedder that it’s hot and humid as f*** here in New York City, as the frontman was clad in a black tee and black leather jacket. Nice shades, though, man.
Watch the guys do “Ordinary Human” above, then head below to see them serve up their ever-present radio jams “Counting Stars” and “Love Runs Out.” More »
With no time to waste, Complex cover girl and our favorite other woman Lana Del Rey is beginning to roll out “Ultraviolence,” the next single and title track from her masterful second record, Ultraviolence.
While she preps the upcoming video, Lana — err, Deadly Nightshade — has just dropped a trio of tantalizing remixes to add a little mmmph to her already, erm…physical ode to love.
The mixes — crafted by PBR Streetgang, Sonic Matta and The Penelopes — range from modern electronica pulsations to early ’90′s-leaning House, providing the spooky epic with a dance floor friendly gloss. Grab Jim, and allow him to raise you up at the discotheque. Check out the remixes after the jump, and let us know which one’s your favorite in the comments below. More »
