Elliphant has made huge waves with her wild child ways and experimental approach to pop — two characteristics that will, no doubt, be on display on the Swedish diva’s new EP Look Like You Love It, which drops April 1. It includes contributions from producers Diplo and Skrillex and promises to be generally awesome.
To prepare your senses for Ellinor Olovsdotter‘s (her real name) much-anticipated EP, listen to new track “Revolusion”. It’s raw, bonkers and completely addictive. In other words — quintessentially Elliphant. Oh and make sure you check out her live shows. The “Music Is Life” singer just announced tour dates in Los Angeles and New York. More details after the jump. More »
Irish rockers Kodaline won a huge international following with debut LP In A Perfect World, so it was almost inevitable that the US would also fell under their spell. The four-piece band dropped by American Idol last night (March 6) to perform new single “All I Want” and were typically spectacular.
These guys are so tight. Steve Garrigan‘s vocal is a thing of beauty and their musicianship is beyond repute. It looks like American Idol viewers were just as impress. After Kodaline’s epic performance their album shot to number 16 on iTunes and “All I Want” — a tale of heartbreak and loss — rocketed into the top 100. Watch up top. More »
Here’s some great news for your Friday afternoon. Madonna is working on new music with Swedish super-producer Avicii, who has carved out a niche as the king of pop-friendly EDM with mega-hits like “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother”. The legendary diva casually announced the news in an Instagram update, commenting: “Doing some house work before heading to the studio with Avicci!”
There’s so much to love about this but let’s start with the fact that Madonna was scrubbing her bathroom in fishnet stockings (above) and couldn’t be bothered spell-checking Avicii’s name. More excitingly, this indicates that the 55-year-old is taking it back to the clubs on her 13th album after dabbling in hip-hop — rather unsuccessfully — on MDNA and Hard Candy. Let’s all pray for some Confessions On A Dance Floor realness! See her post after the jump. More »
Robin Thicke should stop dedicating songs to estranged wife Paula Patton at concerts and make a collage of her prettiest red carpet snaps and put it on Instagram. It sure did the trick for Justin Bieber. Less than a week after his now infamous ‘elegant princess’ post, the Canadian superstar appears to have won Selena Gomez back.
The lovebirds were snapped in Hidalgo, Texas (where Selena is performing this weekend) by paparazzi while they hung out at Starbucks. The Stars Dance diva later posted a picture with a Starbucks coffee on her Instagram. Who knows — maybe they were both craving caffeine and ended up at the same store? Yeah, not very likely. More »
Pop fans around the globe breathed a collective sigh of relief when JoJo revealed she had finally broken free of Blackground Records (AKA the worst label on earth) and signed a new deal with Atlantic. It turns out the 23-year-old is already in the studio cooking up hits with legendary songwriter Diane Warren.
This is great news. Nobody knows their way around a big voice better than Diane — her track record of writing chart-busting ballads for Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Cher and Christina Aguilera speaks for itself — and the duo previously worked together successfully on JoJo’s sophomore set The High Road. Together they created “Exceptional” and “Note To God”. More »
Time for another new song from the Divergent soundtrack! Following A$AP Rocky and Gesaffelstein‘s “In Distress,” the album’s other big hip-hop collaboration, Kendrick Lamar and Tame Impala‘s “Backwards,” has hit the Web.
While “In Distress” matched Rocky’s chilled out flow with futuristic sonics, this song flips the formula, pairing Lamar’s blunt, gruff delivery over the soothing psychedelic bed of the Australian band’s “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards.” As with K-Dot’s “Radioactive” remix, he still sounds angry (we can’t imagine why he’d have a chip on his shoulder!), so it makes for an interesting juxtaposition. Hear it below.
Where, oh, where is D’Angelo these days? It’s a question many fans of the smooth “Lady” crooner have asked since the release of his sophomore album in 2000 — a record, mind you, that has yet to see a follow-up. (His third LP — once called James River but now supposedly untitled — may actually see the light of day this year. Or not?)
One place you can find the 40-year-old neo-soul legend in 2014 is at the New York’s Brooklyn Musem Cantor Auditorium on May 21, holding court for “A Conversation With D’Angelo” during this year’s Red Bull Music Academy Festival. It’s just one of a myriad of events that will take place during the 31-day run of live performances, lectures, art installations and other goings-on around town.
Other artists taking part include Bloc Party‘s Kele Okereke, Hot Chip frontman Alexis Taylor, Panda Bear (recently of Daft Punk “Doin’ It Right” fame) and David Byrne. More information can be found here, and the full schedule for the festival is below. More »
Ariana Grande shared the stage with vocal heavyweights Jill Scott, Patti LaBelle, Janelle Monae and Melissa Etheridge as well as The Voice winner Tessanne Chin at last night’s (March 6) Women Of Soul: In Performance At The White House concert, which was hosted by President Obama and the First Lady.
The 20-year-old looked understandably nervous but delivered a competent if unspectacular version of Whitney Houston‘s classic ballad “I Have Nothing”. She sounded much more at home performing Yours Truly bop “Tattooed Heart” and later joined the other ladies for an entertaining rendition of Tina Turner‘s iconic jam “Proud Mary”. Watch all of Ari’s performances up top. More »
Jennifer Lopez dropped by Big Boy‘s radio show on Power 106 this morning (March 7) to chat about her new album. The ageless diva spoke to the DJ revealed that music became her main priority again after completing her first world tour in 2013. The 44-year-old stunner has been cooking up fresh tunes ever since.
J.Lo admitted that it’s been a long process but she wanted to take her time. It turns out the “I Luh Ya Papi” diva is a taking an ‘organic’ approach to this LP — hence the initially somewhat confusing buzz singles “Girls” and “Same Girl”. As for the latter, Jenny opened up about filming the video with some friends and her strong connection to the Bronx. Watch up top. More »
Lea Michele is busily promoting debut LP Louder with television appearances and daring fashion shoots but also squeezed in some time to strike a more wholesome pose for the cover of Seventeen magazine. She’s the perfect choice for ‘The Hair Issue’ with her lovely long locks flowing down her chest.
The 27-year-old always looks pretty but they might have gone a little overboard with the bronzer. That combined with her bright orange top makes the big-lunged diva look like an escapee from Charlie And The Chocolate Factory. Maybe that’s just the look they were going for? In the issue, Lea talks about the secret to being strong and happy. Sounds like a good read. More »
