Bad news for Bobby Shmurda! The young rapper was allegedly arrested today (December 17) at New York City’s Quad Studios, after a long-term NYPD investigation. He may possibly be involved in narcotics trafficking and various shootings. The news follows Shmurda’s recent charge for possessing a gun and marijuana. Billboard states the rapper was arrested early this morning along with other members of the GS9 Brooklyn gang.
Shmurda is facing indictment, but the charges won’t be officially released until tomorrow (December 18), when the arraignments will reportedly take place at Manhattan Supreme Court. Bobby Shmurda came onto the mainstream scene once his “Hot Nigga” song went viral and took over many parts of pop culture, including the Billboard Hot 100. More »
Whenever Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon meet up, it is always a hilariously great time! The comedic BFFs have starred in many sketches together (“The History Of Rap,” “Hashtag,” etc.) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and their “Camp Winnipesaukee” skit is one of their funniest!
Last night (December 16), the musician stopped by the late night show to act in another segment of the sketch. This time around, the two buddies performed an awesome rendition of Third Eye Blind‘s 1998 single from their self-titled debut — “Jumper.” More »
Little-to-no promo seems to be the way to go for J. Cole. The North Carolina rapper barely gave a heads-up a month ago that his album Forest Hills Drive was on the way in December, and without even a single out ahead of time to promote the project, the LP has debuted atop the Billboard 200 on the strength of 371,000 copies sold. It’s the biggest debut for a rap album this year, and comes just behind the 383,000 copies Coldplay‘s Ghost Stories (2014′s third best debut week) opened with in the spring. More »
Kanye West has added another artist to his G.O.O.D. Music roster! The latest signee is Kacy Hill, a 20-year-old model who wants to try her hand at singing. The confirmation didn’t come from ‘Ye himself, though. Instead, Def Jam revealed the news on Twitter as they asked followers to “Vote up Kanye’s newest G.O.O.D Music addition @kacyhill on @DazedMagazine 100 List!” Fun fact: Hill is a former American Apparel model who is known for her, um, ass-ests and was also a backup dancer at the rapper’s “Yeezus Tour.”
There is no word on when the record label will release additional information or a single from the artist, but for now we can get a taste of Hill’s alternative sound — thanks to a video for “Experience” that was released back in September. She joins John Legend, Pusha T, Teyana Taylor, Big Sean and more on G.O.O.D Music!

Australia’s Triple J radio station managed to gather some of the biggest names in music for their new comedy sketch, including Lorde, Disclosure, Skrillex, Diplo and more! In the video, the station’s weekday breakfast DJs Matt and Alex cram all of the artists in their studio so they can record a theme song for the annual music countdown. Of course it doesn’t work, as egos begin to collide!
Tensions and cheesy jokes rise as even more cameos come pouring into the studio (Steve Aoki, Rick Astley, Flume, Ben Folds, etc.). But fortunately, Gotye comes in right on time and saves the day with his ukulele! The promotional video was created in anticipation of Triple J’s forthcoming year-end Hottest 100 countdown. More »
Nicki Minaj‘s anaconda definitely don’t want none of her old yearbook photo’s buns, hun.
The Pinkprint pop-rap diva is kicking the promotional duties into full swing this week with the release of her third LP. Last night, Minaj came to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to chat with the host about her new record.
Together, they discussed the massive success of “Anaconda” and the video’s 300 million YouTube views. (“Between us, it’s 100 million right there!” Jimmy joked, pointing to The Roots.) But the Pinkprint chatter didn’t last for long. Jimmy busted out a screenshot of an Instagram that Beyoncé posted, which included a yearbook photo of Mizz Minaj, who was visibly embarrassed. But fear not! Jimmy busted out his own (hilarious) yearbook photos. Stars: They’re just like us! More »
As part of her Froot album promotion, Marina And The Diamonds plans on releasing acoustic videos for the project’s tunes — and the first visual is for “Happy.” It is a distinct variant from quirky lead single, “Froot,” as it is a dreary, heartfelt ballad. The accompanying video displays just that, with the Welsh artist singing the the track with tangible emotion while blue lights sparkle around her stunning face.
“Happy” is the latest single from Froot, the follow-up to 2012′s Electra Heart. It is Marina And The Diamonds’ forthcoming third studio LP, which is set for an April 3, 2015 release via Neon Gold Records. More »
Well, at least there are no smashed iPhones. (Yet.)
This morning, at least 13 demos from Madonna‘s still untitled, highly anticipated follow-up to MDNA surfaced on the web, including tracks like “Living For Love,” “Unapologetic Bitch” and “Illuminati.” It didn’t take too long for Madge herself to notice, as she’s just posted a response to the invasion of her privacy on Instagram. “Thank you for not listening! Thank you for your loyalty! Thank you for waiting and if you have heard please know they are unfinished demos stolen long ago and not ready to be presented to the world,” she wrote, accompanied by a photo from her new Interview Magazine spread. As part of the promotional run for her latest Sucker LP, Charli XCX stopped by Late Show With David Letterman last night (December 16) to perform a deep cut off the record — “Need Ur Luv.” Instead of entertaining the audience with one of her rowdier singles, the UK rebel chose the final track from her new project.
For the late show performance, Charli was joined by Vampire Weekend‘s Rostam Batmanglij on piano. While I stated “Need Ur Luv” was one of the weaker tracks from the album in my review, the singer managed to pull off the kitschy tune live. It was a red light (well, pink actually) special kind of display, as the singer donned a classic lingerie set and sky-high platforms while performing the song. Stay tuned until the end to see David Letterman gift Charli with a “naughty” toy! More »
