VÉRITÉ’s “Weekend” Gets A Suitably Gloomy Video: Watch The Cliche-Filled Tragedy Unfold

VÉRITÉ is quietly carving out a niche as the queen of melancholy pop. The budding New York diva inhabits a previously unoccupied middle ground between the sadcore leanings of Lana Del Rey and the ethereal electro-pop of Ellie Goulding that is utterly enchanting. Buzz single “Strange Enough” showed potential but new single “Weekend” is absolutely undeniable. One listen and you’re hooked.

The video is less convincing. VÉRITÉ opts for a mysterious approach, remaining in the shadows for most of “Weekend”. I like those sequences because they suit the song’s ominous undercurrent but the teenage cliches that play out in the back/side story seem better suited to a Taylor Swift clip. That is until everything goes very wrong at the end. Watch after the jump. More »

Disney Divas Unite! Bea Miller Is Joining Demi Lovato On Tour

Bea Miller is joining Demi Lovato‘s world tour for five North American dates in October. And the budding diva, who first came to fame on X Factor before being signed to Hollywood Records, couldn’t be more excited about her new gig. “I just never thought that I’d be touring with someone who I look up to so much as an artist,” she says. Aww.

The gravelly-voiced 15-year-old released her debut EP Young Blood earlier this year and generated serious buzz with the teen angst-packed title track. Before touring with her idol, Bea will join Bleachers and Pitbull at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom for the annual T.J. Martell Foundation Family Day on September 28. The event raises money for cancer and AIDS research. Find the newcomer’s tour dates after the jump. More »

Barbra Streisand On Track For Record 10th Number One Album With ‘Partners’

Bown down to the one true queen of the Billboard 200. Barbra Streisand is on track to land a record-breaking 10th number one LP next week with duets collection Partners. That would make her the first artist to score chart-toppers in a brain-busting six consecutive decades. It would also extend her lead over Madonna as the female artist with the most number one albums.

The pop icon has done a brilliant job of marketing this album. Not only did she team up with a fine selection of fellow superstars (Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney for starters), Babs also revamped her image by embracing social media — her Instagram account is life — and upping her promo game. Partners is predicted to sell 150,000 copies in its first week of sale. More »

Meghan Trainor Spearheads An All-Female Top 5 On The Billboard Hot 100 (Again)

Meghan Trainor notches up her second week at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with all-conquering feel-good anthem “All About That Bass”. The 20-year-old spearheads an all-female top 5 for the second week in row. (The last time the upper reaches of the singles chart were dominated by women for back-to-back weeks happened way back in 1999 when Cher held court with “Believe”).

As for the rest of the ladies? Taylor Swift has to settle for the runner’s-up slot for a second consecutive week with “Shake It Off”, while Nicki Minaj (and her “Anaconda”) stay put at number three. Rap rival Iggy Azalea climbs a spot with Rita Ora-assisted smash “Black Widow”, while Jessie J‘s girl power collaboration “Bang Bang” drops to number five. See the full top 10 after the jump. More »

Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” Gets A (Relatively) Upbeat Hook N Sling Remix: Listen To The Extended Version

“Ultraviolence” is probably the least club-friendly song released in 2014. A seething ballad with domestic violence-referencing lyrics, the title track of Lana Del Rey‘s latest LP doesn’t exactly make you want to get up and dance. Not that stopped Cedric Gervais from turning “Summertime Sadness” into a crossover club smash in 2013. But still. It just seems… wrong.

Kudos then to Hook N Sling for doing the (seemingly) impossible. The Australian DJ gave “Ultraviolence” an extensive house overhaul that transformed Lana’s meandering tale of woe into upbeat club fodder way back in July. That version was relatively brief — clocking in at just three minutes — but now you can enjoy an extended version. Listen to the fast and furious LDR remix after the jump. More »

Iggy Azalea Is Suing Sextape-Shopping Ex-Boyfriend For Releasing Old Music & Fraud

Iggy Azalea‘s messy sextape drama took another unexpected twist today (September 17) when the rap diva sued ex-boyfriend Jefe Wine for trying to release old music and, interestingly, for forging a management contract. There’s no specific mention of their intimate home movie (which may or may not exist — she maintains it’s not her) but the suit would still halt its release.

Here’s how. Maurice Williams (her ex’s real name) is claiming to have consent to sell their sextape because Iggy reportedly signed a contract giving him the right to “manufacture, sell, distribute and advertise ‘any’ recording embodying visual images” of her. However, she claims the document is a fake. “The Forged Agreement contains tell-tale signs that it is not genuine,” reads the hitmaker’s lawsuit.

“For example, it includes mismatched fonts on the signature page, paragraph numbers out of sequence, a signature line for ‘Wine Enterprises, inc.’…  and provides, as an address for legal notices, the contact information of an attorney who had no prior knowledge of the Forged Agreement.” Basically the “Fancy” femcee just called his bluff.  More »

Jessie Ware Debuts Miguel-Penned ‘Tough Love’ Track, “Kind of…Sometimes…Maybe”: Listen

As the release of Jessie Ware‘s sophomore LP Tough Love (due out on October 21) comes creeping closer still with each passing day, the soulful British songstress has been treating fans with more and more delicate electronic offerings from the ever-promising collection.

She’s given us the artsy “Say You Love Me,” shared some “Share It All” and provided us with some (flowery) “Tough Love” over the past few weeks — and now, she’s linking up with Miguel for her latest offering.

“Kind of…Sometimes…Maybe,” which was produced by BenZel (Benny Blanco and Two Inch Punch), plays like a sweet afternoon daydream (or a nice addition to the bedroom playlist), set across gentle electronic ripples and sensuous beats. The song’s full of whispered purrs and soulful crooning, recalling some of Miguel’s own Kaleidoscope Dream. “Do I want you at all? Okay, I hate to admit…kind of…sometimes…maybe,” she coos.

The Thaw Has Arrived: ‘Frozen’ Finally Drops Out Of The Album Chart’s Top 10

Disney Frozen movie

A whopping seven of the 10 albums within the Billboard 200‘s Top 10 this week are debuts, including Lecrae‘s Anomaly at #1 (88,000 copies sold), Jhene Aiko‘s Souled Out at #3 (70,000) and Ryan Adams‘ latest, self-titled LP at #4 (45,000). This all means several titles get the boot from the upper tier of the chart, including Ariana Grande‘s My Everything (only two weeks after debuting at #1), Sam Smith‘s In The Lonely Hour and, if you can believe it, the Frozen soundtrack. The latter had spent a total of 41 consecutive weeks in the Top 10. Who knows — it may return next week once some of these newbies with less staying power slip down the roundup.

See who landed where in the upper reaches of the Billboard 200 below. More »

Lady Gaga Arrives In Athen, Gets Naked And Posts Photos On Instagram (Semi NSFW, Obviously)

Jazz warrior and peace and love-spreading seashell bikini goddess Lady Gaga is feeling especially Cheek To Cheek-y in Athens, it seems.

The ARTPOP diva is currently out on the road with her ongoing ArtRave Tour, entertaining Little Monsters all across the world. Earlier today, the “Venus” chanteuse touched down in Greece to prepare for her upcoming performance at Olympic Stadium on September 19. And once Gaga got a glimpse of her posh hotel room, she set to taking some very intimate snapshots — especially the bathroom.

“Bathtime. “The Royal Suite” fit for a Goddess, or you know, a downtown New York gal with big dreams, and a lotta nerve,” Gaga wrote on the first butt-baring shot. “This shower ain’t too shabby either.” And then, she took it one step further: “Aphrodite Lady Shower Greekini, feeling frisky. #Venus” she teased. Where’s that BF Taylor when you need him?!

Charli XCX Covers ‘Complex’, Talks Past Music Biz Struggles

Complex Charli XCX magazine cover

For their latest cover subject, Complex chose singer, songwriter and all around cool-as-hell hit-maker Charli XCX. We’re in the lead-up to the release of the “Boom Clap” artist’s sophomore LP Sucker (out October 21), and Complex spent a full day talking to Charli basically about the path that brought her to this point in her career — including the despair she felt after penning Icona Pop‘s global smash “I Love It.” More »
