Big Sean is gearing up for a major music takeover, as he is prepping for the release of his third studio album — Dark Day Paradise. He revealed the LP title via social media last night, and now he graces the February/March issue of Complex. Inside the issue, the Detroit native touches on various topics: his new record, goals of starting a record label, ex-girlfriend Naya Rivera and his new lady Ariana Grande.
The magazine states that “Sean feels his third album, about his recent highs and lows, is his most personal yet, but admits that he’s still trying to find his sound.” The rapper cites producer Key Wane as crucial for the record’s sound.
“We started as friends. I’d never done that. Usually you meet a girl and then start dating. We always saw each other in the studio, and we’d talk about songs we were working on,” Sean Don says about Grande. “It was cool to have a girl that I could talk to about my problems. I did that with her. It’s not some fake-ass, inauthentic shit when I say we were friends. This is something special and I appreciate every moment of it.” View the Complex cover in its entirety after the jump. More »
Everything Say Lou Lou touches turns to gold. Literally.
At this point, it’s basically insane that the stunning Aussie-Swedish sister act hasn’t dropped their long awaited debut LP yet. From “Beloved” to “Better In The Dark” to “Everything We Touch” to their unexpected dreamy remake of Daft Punk‘s “Instant Crush,” the two have quite literally never done wrong. And guess what? The streak continues.
“Nothing But A Heartbeat” is the dream-pop duo’s latest single from their upcoming debut, Lucid Dreaming, due out in February. (Allegedly, anyway.) Filled with ambient guitar, sweeping melodies and a late night ambient undercurrent (crickets chirping!), the girls’ latest uptempo anthem is as catchy, cinematic and stunning as ever. “I got no air in my lungs, got no bones in my body/There’s nothing left inside…nothing but a heartbeat,” the two sing in unison.

Sam Smith is having a rough start to 2015. The Brit broke up with boyfriend Jonathan Zeizel last week and was recently forced to hand over 12.5% of his “Stay With Me” royalties to Tom Petty for “notable similarities” to the singer/songwriter’s 1989 single “I Won’t Back Down.” Oh, and he was also called “an ugly motherfucker” by Howard Stern over the weekend. “You know what I like about the guy?” the shock jock asked listeners. “He’s an ugly motherfucker. He’s fat, I love it.”
Instead of asking Lady Gaga for a ride in the Born Brave Bus, Sam decided to rise above it. “I can’t believe what I’ve just read,” he tweeted. That was followed by: “Ignore.” Today (January 26), the multiple Grammy nominee has carried on as usual — posting his usual mix of selfies and song lyrics on Instagram. He also shared a shirtless pic, perhaps to refute Stern’s unflattering assessment of his appearance. See the full pic and tweets after the jump. More »
Earlier this month, Adidas revealed that Pharrell, David Beckham, Damian Lillard and Rita Ora were the stars for their new Adidas Originals’ Superstar shoe design — thanks to this glittery, black + white commercial. Now, the UK songstress is taking us behind the scenes of her latest shoot for the company!
In the pictures, Ora shows off her rock-hard abs while donning a printed tracksuit (it’s a part of her new collection with Adidas) and voluminous bleach-blond hair. In the accompanying video, she speaks about the creative process that goes behind designing the clothes.

If TLC and Shayne Ward have proved anything in recent weeks, it’s that sidestepping the major labels and utilizing online funding platforms might just be the fastest and easiest way to go when making a pop album that stays true to the artist’s own vision.
Iconic R&B girl group TLC only just announced that they’d be using Kickstarter to fund their upcoming final LP, and within two days their monetary goal had been met thanks to money handed over by their fans…including Katy Perry! (Read our interview with the ladies here.) More »
The 87th annual Academy Awards is shaping up to be an interesting one, due to its announcement of unexpected performers. Thanks to Diane Warren, we’re aware that Rita Ora will be singing at the ceremony — most likely the Oscar-nominated “Grateful” from Beyond The Lights. Now, you can add Adam Levine to the lineup!
The Maroon 5 frontman and The Voice coach revealed the news on Twitter, stating: “So…I’ll be singing at the #OSCARS!!! Whaaaat??!?!? Thank you @theAcademy! #LostStars.” It’s safe to say that he’s pretty excited. Levine will perform “Lost Stars,” which is from the Begin Again soundtrack. John Legend and Common‘s “Glory” tune from Selma is also up for a nomination, so it’s possible the duo will perform as well. View the tweet after the jump! More »
KatyCat fever is in full force at the moment.
With Katy Perry‘s highly anticipated 2015 Super Bowl halftime show performance mere days away at this point, all eyes are now on the “Teenage Dream” princess to provide what will surely be a non-stop medley of some of the singer’s biggest pop hits. (And, of course, surely some surprises along the way too. And Lenny Kravitz!)
But before all that goes down, we’re taking a look back at the milestones of Miss Perry, including her three studio albums: 2008′s One Of The Boys, 2010′s Teenage Dream and 2013′s Prism. Earlier, we reviewed each album as part of our Pop Report Card series. But now, we want you to decide: Which album is her very best of all? Place your vote down below. More »
Ne-Yo‘s new album drops tomorrow (January 27), and the R&B singer has begun celebrating early! He stopped by Good Morning America today to perform his latest single “She Knows” alongside Juicy J. The duo managed to bring the heat during the frigid New York weather with their booty-shaking backup dancers and the tune’s club-appropriate production (the rapper’s huge fur coat was also a big help).
The singer’s sixth studio album Non-Fiction is out on January 27, and features tunes like “Who’s Taking You Home,” a duet with Pitbull on “Time Of Our Lives,” “Money Can’t Buy” with Jeezy and “Make It Easy.” More »
We haven’t heard news about Nathan Sykes (or The Wanted, for that matter) since his 2013 “Almost Is Never Enough” duet with former girlfriend Ariana Grande. While the mini pop diva has moved on to another man and new music, the former boy band member is planning some tunes of his own! The soulful crooner has partnered up with songwriting legends like Diane Warren, Babyface and Harmony Samuels for his debut solo album.
Sykes spoke to Hunger TV about his new collaborations: “Working with Diane Warren and Babyface were two of the most surreal days of my life. There is never a dull moment with Diane and she is one of my favorite people on the planet and the session with Babyface produced probably the most honest and emotional song I’ve ever written.”
The singer also touched on his plans for the album, including its sound: “While I’ve kept this as a pop album, I have tried to make something for everyone and have elements of soul, funk, Motown, dance, straight down the line commercial pop, some more stripped back acoustic tracks and there are a couple of piano ballads on there as well,” he said. “I just wanted to make an album that people can really enjoy and that will also translate really well into a live show as I feel that having a great live show is just as important as having a great album.” More »
