Samantha Jade Returns With Mariah Carey/Britney Spears-Inspired Single “Sweet Talk”: Listen To A Preview

Samantha Jade has dropped a bunch of great songs (“Firestarter”, “Up!” and “Soldier”) since winning X Factor Australia in 2012 but none of them are going to be on her long-awaited debut LP. Instead, a ’90s pop-referencing dance anthem called “Sweet Talk” is being touted as the album’s lead single. And it draws inspiration from Mariah Carey, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera!

“I’ve always had a thing for 90′s style pop — the days when Britney, Mariah, and Christina were on a non-stop roll with huge hits,” the pint-sized diva explains. “I’m really inspired by powerful women like that… it seems like a lot of that female pop-star attitude is coming back with artists like Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus.” A snippet of Sam’s new single has already surfaced online and it sounds like an update of Mimi’s “Fantasy”. Take a listen to the Paro-produced gem after the jump. More »

Carrie Underwood Reveals Her ‘Greatest Hits: Decade #1′ Album Tracklist: See What Made The Cut

Carrie Underwood‘s ‘best of’ is bound to be a big seller this Christmas. Spearheaded by brilliant lead single “Something In The Water”, Greatest Hits: Decade #1 (due December 9) is a 2-disc overview of the country queen’s blockbuster career — complete with new material and demos. If your CU collection isn’t as comprehensive as you would like, this is an excellent starting point.

The American Idol has racked up so many hits that it was almost inevitable that some would miss the cut. I’m just sad that it had to be “Quitter”, which is a better example of country-pop than anything Taylor Swift has ever put her name to. (Also, where is platinum-selling Miranda Lambert duet “Somethin’ Bad”?) Happily, signature songs “Jesus, Take The Wheel”, “Before He Cheats” and “Cowboy Casanova” are present and accounted for. MAGIC! Follow “Rude” With Gentle Reggae-Pop Anthem “Let Your Hair Down”: Watch The Video

Beach Days

MAGIC! have been pretty quiet since conquering the Billboard Hot 100 with debut single “Rude”. They followed that near-perfect pop anthem with LP title track “Don’t Kill The Magic” in some territories but it looks like the next US single might be gentle reggae-pop ballad “Let Your Hair Down”. It’s already charting well in Canada, so that’s a good sign.

Nasri and friends dropped the appropriately low-key video today (October 31) and it finds the band performing on a beach. The sun-dappled visual suits the song’s tropical vibe and there’s a bikini-clad love interest to keep things interesting. While MAGIC! probably won’t repeat the success of “Rude” with this one, their easygoing charm is still a breath of fresh air. Peking Duk Deliver A Sultry Cover Of Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” (Complete With Orchestra): Watch

La La La

Kylie Minogue is experiencing something of a revival in the Australian electronic scene. Hipster darlings Flight Facilities invited the pop icon to sing their “Crave You” reprise, while Peking Duk covered the diva’s seminal 2001 hit “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” for JJJ’s popular Like A Version segment. They also brought along vocalist JOY and members of the Sydney Chamber Orchestra.

The Canberra duo, who scored a commercial breakthrough at home earlier this year with synth-pop single “High” (it also resulted in a US record deal), put a memorable spin on Kylie’s much-played monster hit. They slow the tempo right down, opting for an ambient-electro approach. JOY’s sultry vocals are on-point and the strings are a nice touch. Watch up top. More »

David Guetta’s “Dangerous” Video Is A Formula 1-Themed Soap Opera Starring James Purefoy: Watch

Start Your Engines!

David Guetta isn’t taking any prisoners this era. His new LP Listen boasts features from A-Listers (Nicki Minaj, Sia and John Legend, for starters) and the music videos have been star-studded affairs. Goodfellas actor Ray Liotta starred in “Lovers On The Sun”, while James Purefoy nabs the lead in the Frenchman’s blockbuster “Dangerous” visual.

Directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the superstar DJ’s latest video tells the tale of rival Formula One drivers. David and James grew up racing toy cars together but their relationship got strained somewhere along the way. Cut to the “Shot Me Down” hitmaker facing off against his frenemy in a big race. There are special effects, scantily clad ladies and the obligatory nightclub scene. Watch up top. More »

Broods Deliver A Mesmerizing Interpretation Of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”

Broods demonstrated their ability to transform a pop song into something completely new and different when they not so much remixed, as completely deconstructed Charli XCX‘s current single “Break The Rules”. The New Zealand duo took it a step further by putting their own haunting spin on Katy Perry‘s “Dark Horse” during a recent radio appearance in their homeland.

The Nott siblings strip Dr. Luke‘s trap-pop anthem right back, turning it into a haunting folk song that showcases the full range of Georgia’s exquisite voice. I’d love to hear Katy perform “Dark Horse” like this. It highlights everything that’s good (and timeless) about the chart-topper. Broods’ performance isn’t on YouTube yet, so you’ll have to peep it over at the radio station’s website. It took a minute to load for me but it was so worth it. More »

Selena Gomez’s New Single Is Allegedly “Heart Wants What It Wants”: See The Tracklist Of Her Greatest Hits LP ‘For You’

Selena Gomez‘s November comeback arrived a day early thanks to a slip-up from Amazon France. They confirmed that the much-missed diva’s greatest hits album is indeed called For You and even posted the tracklist. Whoops! The 15-song set includes a couple of surprise omissions (where are iconic anthems “Hit The Lights” and “Bang Bang Bang”?) and odd inclusions (goodbye at “Forget Forever” making the cut) but, over all, it’s pretty spot on.

Most excitingly, there are two (or possibly three) new tracks. “Heart Wants What It Wants” is being bandied around online as For You‘s lead single — a video has already been filmed for it — but there’s also a new collaboration with Rock Mafia called “Do It”. I can’t place “Mas” either but I’m wondering if it’s a Spanish language version of another song that has already been released. We’ll know soon enough. The album is pegged for a November 24 release. Beyonce And Blue Ivy Dressed Up As Janet And Michael Jackson For Halloween: See The Adorable Pics

Well, this is too cute for words. Beyonce started her Halloween celebrations early by stepping out dressed as Janet Jackson circa Rhythm Nation 1814. The 33-year-old got Jan’s military-inspired pant suit just right but even she was upstaged by Blue Ivy, who rocked a Michael Jackson outfit. The adorable toddler had King of Pop’s socks, gloves and jacket down pat.

As for Jay Z? Well, it looks like he wasn’t in the mood for a costume this year. Perhaps, he will go to more effort tonight? It looks like we’ll be seeing more of Bey in the not too distant future. She was accidentally announced as a performer at the MTV EMAs on November 10. While we wait to be slayed by that appearance, check out more pics of the diva’s Halloween look after the jump. More »

Labrinth Drops Emotional “Jealous” Video: Watch

Labrinth has shown before that he doesn’t require much to make a huge impression. When the London singer-songwriter (Rihanna, Ellie Goulding) stopped by the Idolator studios last year, he performed an acoustic rendition of his grimy club-pop banger “Earthquake,” as if it was written during the same session as his Emeli Sande-featuring ballad “Beneath Your Beautiful.”

Labrinth wrote his new song “Jealous” with Josh Kear and Natalie Hemby in Nashville earlier this year. It’s about how he and his family felt when one of his parents abandoned him as a child (“I’m jealous of the way you’re happy without me”), and the video could have easily recreated such specific memories. Instead he sits alone in an empty theater, singing each lyric as if he’s still searching for the right words — and it pains him to do so. More »

Union J Announce New Album ‘You Got It All’: See The Tracklist

Earlier this month, Union J teased a new song called “You Got It All,” written by MAGIC!‘s Nasri. Turns out, that big, soaring ballad is the title track of the British boy band’s sophomore album, out December 8.

Other featured collaborators in You Got It All include Jamie Scott (One Direction), Eric Frederic (Jessie J), famed songwriter Diane Warren (Whitney Houston, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson) — oh, and one that the X Factor finalists won’t reveal just yet. This follow-up to Union J’s 2013 self-titled debut kicks off with The Wanted-inspired “Tonight (We Live Forever),” and from there, the album seems to promises even more feel-good party anthems. One song is actually called “YOLO.”
