Jason Derulo, a singer best known for groundbreaking lyrics like “Jason Derulo!” and also “Jason Derulo!” revealed in a recent interview that his longtime girlfriend Jordin Sparks, whose song “Battlefield” is still objectively better than anything released in 2013, has almost finished her long-awaited third album.
“She’s getting in the studio, she’s doing a lot of acting stuff at the moment which has delayed things a little bit,” he told Digital Spy at Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball. “Give it time, the album will come out. It’s almost done — she’s just putting some finishing touches on it. Everything needs to line up with the record label first and then she’ll get it out.” More »
The prospect of a duet between Britney Spears and Lady Gaga has officially entered the cosmos. In recent days, the two era-defining pop stars publicly expressed interest in collaborating. First, during a live fan chat, Britney said she’d be willing to collaborate with Gaga, adding, “I think that would be a lot of fun. I think she’s very different and interesting and intricate.” Gaga got word of the quote, and responded via Twitter Sunday (December 8): “@britneyspears let’s do this b*tch its time.” So there it is, the idea is now in the ether, ready to become a reality. Country’s left-leaning savior Kacey Musgraves (who had my favorite album of the year with Same Trailer, Different Park) has released the video for her single “Follow Your Arrow,” the most progressive track you’re likely to hear on country radio, and it’s a sunny, sweet clip that features everyone, y’know, following their arrow. Particularly the gentlemen, who drop their inhibitions and just dance.
The video shows a lot of glamour shots of Musgraves, looking extra Western in cowboy boots, short-shorts and a cute hat as she sings backed by a group of suited-up male musicians, but she’s more than earned them. More »
Say Lou Lou (or Slay Lou Lou, as they’re increasingly known around these parts), the Australian-Swedish sister duo whose gorgeous, decadent electropop has made them the act I’m most excited to watch blow up next year, have just released the video for their single “Better In The Dark” and it’s just as lush and glamorous as you’d expect. (That is, if you told me this was a Miu Miu ad, it wouldn’t come as a surprise.)
The video follows the sisters Kilbey (that’s Miranda and Elektra) through what may or may not be a love rectangle (trapezoid?) in a wine-hued sequence, all longing shots of their faces obscured by mirrors as male models cry tears of blood. It’s perfectly evocative, even if it runs a little short on narrative. More »
Robyn is here to lift us out of the Year of Disappointing Divas. Back in July, the Swedish pop darling saddened fans by saying “it’s probably going to be a while before you hear anything new from me,” but today (December 9), she posted a photo from a studio session with Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp, with the simple caption, “We are making music again.” (They previously joined forces on “The Girl And The Robot,” off Röyksopp’s 2009 album Junior and “None Of Dem” from Robyn’s 2010 release Body Talk Pt. 1.)
Not only that, but the Scandinavian acts will be hitting the road together in 2014, hopefully to show off the new tunes. The Do It Again tour doesn’t have dates yet, but Pitchfork reports it’ll hit North America and Europe.

Christina Perri announced today that her follow-up to Lovestrong, sophomore album Head Or Heart (always such a tough decision, no?), will be out March 11, 2014. The Philadelphia songbird already offered up a hint at what’s to come several weeks back with new single “Human.” Christina worked on that particular cut with Martin Johnson, who’s just one of several producers involved in the album. Others who’ve had a hand in Head Or Heart: Jake Gosling, John Hill and Butch Walker.
Following the LP’s March release, Perri will head out for a two-month trek across North America. The jaunt begins April 4 at Denver’s Ogden Theatre, and concludes May 26 at the Vogue Theatre in Vancouver.
Head below to catch the full list of Christina Perri’s 2014 tour days, but first, take a good look at the photo above. It’s a screen grab from this holiday performance Christina did last year. And it’s so festive, we had to haul it out again this December. Have a Very Merry Perri Christmas, everyone! More »
