M.I.A. has put her own unique spin on Beyonce‘s “***Flawless”, rendering the female empowerment anthem almost unrecognizable in a snippet she just (March 10) posted on Instagram. “Finished flawless what do I do with it Beyonce,” tweeted the Matangi diva before switching social media apps to share a preview.
From her tweet, it’s hard to tell if M.I.A.’s “***Flawless” update is official or just for kicks like Busta Rhymes and Azealia Banks‘ “Partition” remix, which was later removed due to copyright infringement. The femcee is signed to Jay Z‘s Roc Nation, so she should get more love. And it sounds pretty good from the snippet. Hit-Boy‘s beats has been reworked and “Bad Girls” visionary goes hard in her rap. Shakira‘s self-titled tenth album is only a matter of weeks away, which means it’s time to ramp up the promo and release the video for experimental second single “Empire”. The acoustic rock ballad triggered a mixed reaction from fans and critics (I love it) but the Colombian is sticking to her guns and moving forward with the track.
Part of her plan to win the public over is a glamorous video, which finds the gorgeous 36-year-old wearing a white wedding dress. Shakira shared a couple of pics from the set (after the jump) and it looks like she’s going for a more subtle approach this time after cavorting with Rihanna in her eye-popping “Can’t Remember To Forget You” video. Britney Spears‘ (not all that) personal Britney Jean LP has spawned a lot of remixes, which isn’t surprising given the pop icon’s standing in clubland. However, the thirst for spearitually engaging floorfillers is so strong that the always reliable Country Club Martini Crew took it upon himself to overhaul album highlight “Passenger” — kind of.
The Brazilian DJ opts for Sia‘s demo over Britney’s version, transforming the mid-tempo pop song into a towering club banger in the mold of the Australian’s own David Guetta-assisted smash “Titanium”. There’s no denying that “Passenger” makes the genre shift seamlessly and but I prefer the original production and Brit’s airy vocal. Listen after the jump. More »
Lana Del Rey just dropped a bombshell on Facebook. The gloomy diva is hitting the road next month, performing shows across North America. The tour doesn’t have a name yet, so it’s impossible to tell exactly what she will be performing, but it would seem to confirm the rumored May 1 release date of new LP Ultraviolence.
Given that releasing albums in the middle of the night with no warning is all the rage now (thank you, Beyonce), Lana’s opus could drop any minute now. The sooner, the better as far as I’m concerned. There’s only so many times you can alternate between Born To Die and her equally amazing Paradise EP! Tickets for the tour go on sale later this week. See all the dates after the jump. More »
Christina Perri is on a roll. The talented 27-year-old is shooting up the Billboard Hot 100 with Head Or Heart lead single “Human”, while newly surfaced gem “Burning Gold” indicates it wont be her last smash from the album. The uplifting mid-tempo pop song reminds me of “Miles” (my fave from the diva’s debut LP) — only with a more upbeat perspective and beefier chorus.
“I’ve had enough, I’m standing up,” she declares before tearing into the catchy chorus. “I’m setting fire to the life that I know, let’s start a fire everywhere that we go.” This infectious anthem will help radio programmers fill the void left by Sara Bareilles‘ not entirely dissimilar “Brave”. Both tunes make you feel a little better about life, which is no small feat. Listen after the jump. More »
Back in spring 2011, “Bounce,” the Kelis-featuring lead single from Calvin Harris‘ third album 18 Months, first surfaced. A year and a half later, the LP itself was released, and now, in this early stretch of 2014, said record’s eighth and final single, “Thinking About You,” is still hovering in the lower reaches of the Billboard Hot 100.
When Harris’ next album will arrive is anyone’s guess, but at least the ball seems to be slowly but surely rolling in the lead-up. This afternoon the Scottish DJ/producer teased his Instagram followers by posting a six-second snippet of new track “Summer.” As you might guess, it’s a balls-to-the-wall dance cut — one that, so far, doesn’t give any indication as the what the lyrics are or who might be singing them.
