Alesso And Tove Lo Join Forces In “Heroes”: Listen

Stockholm rising stars Alesso and Tove Lo have joined forces in the former’s transcendent dance-pop anthem “Heroes.” Based on an extended snippet, the two use their respective strengths to the song’s advantage. As Alesso’s shiny, club-ready melody begins to chug along, Tove Lo sings of sticking out and being okay with that, despite what anyone else may think (“I know you hear me now, we are a different kind / We can do anything”).

While Alesso has yet to announce when he will release a full version of “Heroes,” the song’s bound to arrive as he and Tove Lo gear up to end 2014 with a bang. Last month, Alesso became the second DJ to sign to Def Jam, which he announced with his grimy banger “Tear the Roof Up.” And earlier this week, Tove Lo (also one of Idolator’s 11 Hot Imports) revealed that she will follow up her Truth Serum EP with her debut album Queen of the Clouds, out September 30.

With their brand new song “Them Girls Be Like,” Fifth Harmony continue to deliver fierce self-empowerment anthems and plenty of pop culture savvy.

After name-dropping Michelle Obama and Kanye West while sing of getting their money right in “Bo$$,” the girl group references Beyonce and Mean Girls – “If you’re thirsty, you can’t sit with us” – in efforts to reject selfie obsession. The last thing Fifth Harmony want listeners to do is take selfies solely to seek validation (or likes, rather) from others: “Do you ever post your pics with no filter? #IWokeUpLikeThisToo”

“Them Girls Be Like” arrives as Fifth Harmony revealsa new version of its Reflection‘s album artwork (above) (Harmonizers rejected the first version almost outright) and a release date: November 17 (!). Hear Fifth Harmony’s new song after the jump. More »

Ariana Grande Teases New Song “Only 1”: Listen

"Bang Bang" By Dre
Jessie J, Ariana and Nicki pop up in the new Beats by Dre ad. Read More »

Ariana Grande has revealed a snippet of a new song, just two days before she drops her sophomore album My Everything.

Deluxe edition track “Only 1” doesn’t sound like singles “Problem” and “Break Free,” two straight-up dance tracks, expertly engineered with help from hit-making producer Max Martin, clearly made in hopes of presenting Grande as a bonafide pop star. Instead, this one sounds inspired by late ’70s R&B, as if she was inspired by Quincy Jones‘ deft hand in Michael Jackson‘s Off the Wall. And, as to be expected from a singer dubbed as a “mini-Mariah,” Grande seems to pull if off.

Aug 22nd, 2014 // Comment

Happy Friday, Idolator readers! Are you ready for your pop knowledge quiz? Let’s review what happened this week, shall we?

All eyes were on Taylor Swift as the country-pop diva held a Yahoo live-stream to reveal details about her fifth studio album 1989, which will be released in October. Tay also premiered her Max Martin/Shellback-produced single “Shake It Out” as well as the track’s dorky video. What’s more, Nicki Minaj dropped her jungle-themed, sweaty and ass-tastic visual for “Anaconda,” Scottish beatsmith Calvin Harris previewed a clip of “Blame” with British crooner John Newman, and Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett shared their tracklist for their jazz album, Cheek To Cheek.

Here on Idolator, we premiered Benny Benassi’s latest single “Shooting Helicopters” with System of a Down’s Serj Tankian and, in lieu of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, held our first-ever glamour-filled Idolator Floppy Awards.

As always, you guys had plenty to say. Read the week’s best comments below! More »

Tinashe cemented her status as R&B’s new ‘it’ girl with breakthrough hit “2 On”. The slinky, ’90s-inspired banger evoked memories of Aaliyah and Cassie (before she became a full-time model) but the rising star widens her soundscape on sublime follow-up single “Pretend”. She’s now bordering on mid-tempo Janet Jackson territory, which is a very good thing.

Produced by Detail and featuring a verse from A$AP Rocky, the languid synth-jam finds Tinashe ruminating on the state of her relationship. She somewhat sadly suggests to her man that they pretend they were right back at the beginning in order to recapture that initial spark and lost trust. Her delicate vocal suits the slick production perfectly and the subtle chorus is a killer. Listen after the jump. More »

Jessie J unveiled the title and striking cover of her third LP Sweet Talker yesterday (August 21). The Brit is obviously in a generous mood because she shared the artwork for the deluxe edition this morning and then announced the full tracklist, which features comeback hit “Bang Bang” — obviously — as well as some very surprising collaborations.

For starters, the “Wild” diva teams up with hip hop veterans De La Soul on “Seal Me With A Kiss” and violinist Lindsey Stirling on “Loud”. Then there’s the 2 Chainz collab “Burning Up”, which she spoke about when we interviewed her recently. The line-up of producers is equally tantalizing. The reformed bisexual worked with Max Martin, Ricky Reed and Diplo. See the full tracklist after the jump. More »
