John Legend helped kick off this year's festival by performing three songs made famous by Nina Simone.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are already having a killer 2015 — he with his Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated Selma song with Common, “Glory,” and she with an accidentally hilarious facial expression that went super-viral as a meme. But the talented crooner and model/chef/supremely hilarious Twitter diva aren’t done giving us the good just yet this month — they’re also pictured together in a sexy spread in the January 2015 issue of GQ.

The couple shows off some chic new spring fashion looks and a whole lot of palpable passion in the Anders Overgaard-snapped shoot for the publication, turning up the heat during what is otherwise a supremely chilly, blizzard-filled day in NYC. Check out the story over at GQ, as well as another hot photo from the spread after the jump. More »

Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne Given Credit, Royalties For Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” Due To “Won’t Back Down” Similarity

Credit Where Credit's Due
Sam Announces Break-Up With Boyfriend
Sam Announces Break-Up With Boyfriend
Sam is in the lonely hour once more after splitting with his model boyfriend.

You may recall that when the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ 2006 hit “Dani California” arrived and sounded not unlike Tom Petty‘s “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” Petty was pretty laid back about the whole thing. “If someone took my song note for note and stole it maliciously, then maybe [I'd sue],” the rocker stated at the time. “But I don’t believe in lawsuits much. I think there are enough frivolous law suits in this country without people fighting over pop songs.”

Nor will there be much of a fuss over Sam Smith’s 2014 smash “Stay With Me,” which appears to have been influenced, melodically, by Petty’s 1989 single “I Won’t Back Down.” The latter song was co-written (and co-produced) by Petty and Jeff Lynne, and both have reportedly been been given a 12.5% writing credit for “Stay With Me.” More »

Eminem's "Detroit vs. Everybody" Video: Watch
Eminem & his crew pay homage to their rugged city in the crisp, black + white video.

After releasing a few buzz tracks back in September, the news of Big Sean‘s forthcoming album is now set in stone! The rapper chose a stealth way to reveal the announcement, as the project’s collaborators and himself all posted the same cloudy image to their social media accounts. They included Drake, Jhene Aiko, Travi$ Scott, PARTYNEXTDOOR, DJ Khaled, DJ Mustard and more. During an interview with The Breakfast Club last year, the 26-year-old stated Kanye West and Lil Wayne will also make cameos on the record.

In addition to that, Big Sean previewed some snippets for lucky fans on Snapchat! Times are a-changin’, folks. No word on when the album will be released — but if tunes like “Paradise” and “I Don’t Fuck With You” are any indication, then this is definitely a project to keep your eyes peeled for! “GIRLS NIGHT GET THE WINE!!! BACHELORETTE WEEKEND MY BESTIES GETTIN HITCHED,” Lady Gaga declared on Friday night on Instagram along with a glam selfie, kicking off what would soon be a booze-fueled weekend of pole dancing, male strippers and hangovers galore. Gaga, ooh-la-la!

Gaga took us along for the ride every step of the way on social media for her best friend’s festivities, kicking off her Saturday morning with some fierce stripper class sessions. “Ari’s Bachelorette Weekend! We love our girl so much we will be getting her drunk for the next 48 hrs. #catholicschoolgirlsdoitbest,” she wrote in a group shot. And damn, does Gaga know how to work a pole! Video footage — set to Khia‘s “My Neck, My Back” obviously — proved that the sexy “G.U.Y.” siren knows exactly how to do it, do it.

But that was only the beginning! “I’m pretty sure I’m completely wasted in this photo,” she wrote at one point. Cut to a guilty shot eating pizza late at night, some male stripper action, a morning after snap with a blow-up sex doll and so, so many penis-shaped cakes and decorations. Rihanna’s “FourFiveSeconds (feat. Kanye West & Paul McCartney)”: Review Revue

Rihanna Drops "FourFiveSeconds": Listen
Rihanna Drops "FourFiveSeconds": Listen
Rihanna has offered a taste of what her new album will sound like, alongside Kanye and Paul McCartney.

The Navy has been eagerly anticipating Rihanna‘s R8, her follow-up to Unapologetic, for over two years now. (That’s an eternity in RiRi time.) But did anyone see it coming that her first single would drop on a Saturday evening — or that it would be a folky acoustic jam session with Kanye West and Paul McCartney?!

Indeed, Rih’s seriously thrown us all for a loop with her unexpected new song, “FourFiveSeconds,” a sparse, guitar-led production that puts her raw vocals at the forefront alongside Yeezus and the Beatles legend himself. Almost 48 hours later, The Internet has had some time to properly react to Rihanna’s new music. Are critics here for Rihanna’s drastically different new sound, or are they coming up short with phucks to give?

Find out what the world’s been saying about Rih’s new song after the jump. More »

The producer puts his spin on the jazz tune, "I Can't Give You Anything But Love."

Lady Gaga‘s forthcoming new album just got even bigger — thanks to a little help from Giorgio Moroder! In an interview with PopJustice, the legendary producer says he has a few tunes ready for Mother Monster’s fourth studio project and that the singer could possibly make an appearance on his own record.

Moroder reveals, “I was supposed to be in the studio with her a week ago, but I got a cold. I’ll see her when I’m back. I have about five or six tracks, just basic ideas. Drums, keyboard, bass. I’m going to be surprised, I think – I don’t have a clue about the way she’s recording. Will she play the piano? Will I?” How exciting! More »

Kelly Clarkson Details New Album

What can we expect from Kelly's upcoming 'Piece By Piece'?

It’s not that “Heartbeat Song” is a bad song. There’s just nothing about Kelly Clarkson‘s lead that really reaches out and pulls you in the way some of the original Idol champ’s classic hits did upon first listen, like “Since U Been Gone,” “My Life Would Suck Without You” or even “Catch My Breath.”

The lyric video for “Heartbeat Song” likely won’t change that view, as it simply takes the single’s cover art treatment and carries on with the same motif. You can watch it above, and let’s all think good thoughts for Piece By Piece single #2 in the meantime. More »

Popping Up: Spencer Sutherland

Emblem3's 'Together Forever': Stream
Emblem3's 'Together Forever': Stream
Listen to the new EP by 'X Factor USA' album, Emblem3.

Popping Up is our recurring look at new artists making noise on the music landscape. Because, hey — Beyoncé and Miley were once unknown, too.

From heading out on the road with acts like Ariana Grande, Emblem3 and Austin Mahone to hitting the studio with pop songwriting royalty (Andreas Carlsson, the man responsible for crafting smashes for the likes of Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys), there’s plenty to be excited about when it comes to rising star, Spencer Sutherland.

This month, the young Ohio-bred singer-songwriter dropped his debut EP called Unveiled (January 13), featuring his lead single “Heartstrings” and “Nothing Can Hurt Me,” a soulful pop ode penned alongside Carlsson. (He isn’t just writing for himself, either: He also helped to co-pen a majority of Emblem3′s recent Forever Together EP.)

We caught up with Spencer moments after he landed in LA for a songwriting session earlier this month. Check out what the talented up-and-comer had to say. More »

Katy Perry’s Pop Report Card: We Grade Her 3 Albums, Ahead Of Her Super Bowl Performance

Your Grades Have Been Posted, Katy

Even if Taylor Swift doesn’t sneak backstage to “Bad Blood” up the iconic whipped-cream-cannon bikini, Katy Perry’s Super Bowl Halftime Show will, undoubtedly, be Sunday’s sinfully sweet highlight.

So large does Perry’s shadow loom over pop culture, in fact, that it’s hard to believe that she’s only been famous since 2008, when her debut album, like countless pubescent boys’ voices after seeing her in the flesh, dropped. (Apologies to the 200 floor-length denim-skirted fans who bought the 2001 Katy Hudson Christian album and aren’t reading this anyway because the Internet is the devil’s playground.)

Whether you’re One of the Boys, a Teenage Dream or fresh out of Prism, let’s grade each of Katy Perry’s three studio albums to see how the world’s biggest TLC fan scores in Idolator’s Pop Report Card. More »
