Lil Wayne‘s long-delayed Tha Carter V will finally be released in early 2015, as his manager Cortez Bryant and Young Money president Mack Maine recently assured the press. Regardless, Lil Wayne has reportedly decided to take action against Cash Money.
According to TMZ, Lil Wayne plans to sue Birdman for $8 million. The “Believe Me” rapper claims that the Cash Money label boss violated his contract by pushing back the release of and failing to pay him an advance for Tha Carter V. More »
John Legend helped kick off this year’s Sundance Film Festival by performing three songs made famous by legendary vocalist and civil rights activist Nina Simone.
Right after the credits for opening night selection What Happened, Miss Simone?, Legend appeared from behind the theater screen, seated at a grand piano. He played some of Simone’s best-known covers from the ’60s, from “Lilac Wine” to “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free” (which he also recorded for his joint album with the Roots, Wake Up!) and “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.” More »
Kanye West kicked off 2015 by releasing “Only One,” his poignant ballad featuring Paul McCartney on keyboard. If West’s barber is correct, though, then the Beatles songwriter played a larger role in the Yeezus rapper’s new music than anticipated.
According to Ibn Jasper, who has cut West’s hair since he was 17, McCartney has co-produced the entirety of West’s new album. Here’s where it gets a little confusing: While Rihanna had promoted the just-released “FourFiveSeconds,” featuring both artists, as a “first glimpse” of her new album, Jasper says that this new song belongs to West and will therefore also appear on his upcoming studio release. Nowadays, Blake Shelton spends most of his time being a guest judge on NBC’s The Voice. But don’t forget that he’s still a musician! The country singer got back into the groove on Saturday Night Live tonight (January 24) where he made his debut as host and performer. Along with guesting in various skits that predictably highlighted his country roots and the singing competition, Shelton entertained the audience with “Neon Light” and “Boys ‘Round Here.”

Rihanna has offered a taste of what her new album will sound like — “FourFiveSeconds,” featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney.
Coming from the Unapologetic diva, known for churning out urban dance-pop hits like clockwork, and the Yeezus rapper, who matched his impassioned raps with ’90s industrial rock tendencies on his last album — an acoustic guitar duet about workingman’s blues was the last thing that we expected. Yet here it is, with Rihanna’s voice sounding as resilient and West’s as tender as can be. More »
Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have mutually decided to end their marriage just short of its six-year anniversary. “It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways and both Mandy and Ryan are asking for media to respect their privacy at this time,” a rep for Moore said to Us Weekly.
When Moore and Adams first got together, they seemed like a mismatched couple. She was a pop singer turned actress who still managed to maintain a squeaky clean image. Meanwhile, he was an indie rocker with a history of substance abuse. More »
Lady Gaga ended 2014 by hitting the studio with acclaimed songwriter Diane Warren, best known for her power ballads. Now, a month later, the resulting collaboration has made its debut at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Their new song, “Till It Happens to You,” appears in Kirby Dick‘s The Hunting Ground, a documentary that exposes the troubling rape culture at college campuses nationwide.
While “Till It Happens to You” hasn’t surfaced online yet, Lady Gaga and Warren did exchange some lyrics on Twitter, to give fans an idea of what to expect — “Till it happens to you, you don’t know how it feels,” and “Till your world burns and crashes, till [you're] at the end, the end of your rope.” In her review, The Hollywood Reporter‘s Leslie Felperin says that the song “provides an extra jolt of poignancy” in the film.

With the grand finale of the series getting closer every week, the writing on Glee has gone from whimsical to downright wacky in tone. For those of you wondering what the show has been desperately in need of, it’s more Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch). And this week, the musical series definitely delivers. Sue’s crowning moment is a solo that has her head popping out of lockers and file drawers. And I say that after also having seen robot drones with high definition cameras float through the halls of McKinley High on this show. More »
Meghan Trainor sings of being lovesick in her upcoming duet with One Direction‘s Harry Styles, titled “London Lights” — at least, in the snippet she performed recently at Capital FM Breakfast.
“Saying that you love that I got hazel eyes / and honestly, I won’t catch up on sleep tonight / I’ve been looking at London lights and missing you,” Trainor sings to a gentle ukulele melody. The winning pop songwriter calls the song “cute,” but fittingly there’s also a twinge of sadness in her voice. More »
