If Mathew Knowles‘ relationship with Beyonce wasn’t strained already, it will be after she hears about his latest run-in with the media. The mastermind behind Destiny’s Child talked about his famous offspring during an interview with a Houston radio program this morning (August 27) and claimed that Solange‘s elevator brawl with Jay Z was staged to boost ticket sales for The Carters’ On The Run tour.
“There’s a tour going on,” the 63-year-old explained. “So you have to sometimes ignite that tour, it’s called a Jedi mind trick. The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of time.” He wasn’t done there. “Everybody’s talking about it, ticket sales went up. Solange’s album sales went up 200 per cent.” Wow. What kind of dad publicly accuses his daughters of fraud? Amusingly, he claims to still be managing Destiny’s Child and says he speaks with Bey every Sunday. They are going to have an interesting conversation this week. Listen to the interview after the jump. More »
The social media gods are smiling on us again. Since the demise of Rihanna‘s Instagram account (I miss it each and every day), the world has been a far less sexy place. Even Miley Cyrus‘ seemingly endless string of semi-nude photo shoots can’t replace RiRi’s ratchet shenanigans. Thankfully, she finally put her Twitter to good use and posted some sexy pics.
The Barbadian babe hung out on a yacht today (August 27) and posed in a dress that looks like my grandmother’s old tablecloth. Rihanna then took a snap in a bikini before tweeting about having dinner inside an active volcano. It’s good to see she’s relaxing after winding up her joint-your with Eminem in Detroit over the weekend. See her impromptu photo shoot after the jump. More »
Tinashe has been buzzed about for so long now that it’s hard to believe she still hasn’t released an album. Happily, that situation is about to be rectified on October 7 when Aquarius drops. The rising R&B diva unveiled the cover (a suitably sultry snap) and tracklist of her debut LP this afternoon (August 27) and both are absolutely mouth-watering.
The much-hyped set features the 21-year-old’s breakthrough hit “2 On” as well as sublime second single “Pretend”. There are a couple of features (“Bet” with Dev Hynes and “How Many Times” with Future) and a bunch of interludes (how very Janet Jackson) but the vast majority of the album is comprised of new solo material. Brandon Flowers certainly doesn’t slack in the music-making department. This past June marked the 10-year anniversary of his band The Killers‘ debut LP Hot Fuss, and as a follow up to the quartet’s 2013 compilation Direct Hits — as well as his own 2010 solo album Flamingo — the Las Vegas pop-rock crooner has been busying himself by recording another solo LP, this time with Grammy-nominated producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Sky Ferreira, Kylie Minogue).
“He’s taking me out of my comfort zone,” Flowers told NME about working with Rechtshaid, while noting his new album will be out in 2015. “Normally I make demos and they’re pretty similar to how the song ends up. but he’ll take a song and be like, ‘I hear this’. It’s incredible – his palette and his range, what he’s able to say. At first we were butting our heads together, but now we’re hitting it off.” More »
Evidently she doesn’t have to worry about those pesky haters too much: Taylor Swift just shook and shimmied her way to a #1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.
The 1989 pop titan, who is no stranger to insanely high chart sales, just notched another major victory with the lead single from her forthcoming pop record, which she just performed at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards. Naturally, she’s gone and broke a bunch of records while doing so: “‘Shake’ arrives with 544,000 first-week downloads sold in the week ending Aug. 24, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The sum marks the greatest weekly total this year and the fourth-best bow all-time,” reports Billboard. She also broke a radio record, debuting at #9 on Adult Pop Songs and #12 on Pop Songs. Quite simply, Swift just demolished the charts once again.

What the world needs now is another album from Yelle. That’s something I randomly said a couple of months ago and, somewhat surprisingly, the universe has delivered. Via Dr. Luke of all people! The French trio’s third LP Completement Fou was produced entirely by the super-producer and his associates. It drops September 30 on his label, Kemosabe Records.
Yelle’s irreverent brand of electro-pop has won them a loyal cult following around the globe but they still seem like an unlikely fit for the man behind Kesha and Katy Perry‘s mega-hits. However, the union could turn out to be a masterstroke if the brilliant title track is any indication. “Completement Fou” is an intoxicating dose of fizzy French techno — complete with rave keys and a monster chorus. So far, so good. Listen to the electro-anthem (and see the LP’s full tracklist) after the jump. More »
