Popping Up is our recurring look at new artists making noise on the music landscape. Because, hey — Madonna and Britney were once unknown, too.

When undiscovered R&B crooner Kalin White, 19, met rapper/beatmaker Myles Parrish, 21, at a house party in their native Northern California, they had no idea that they would become the pop sensations they are today. Only joining forces in 2011, they’ve already managed to round up a massive fan base, become Vine celebs, sign a deal with Republic Records and position themselves as one of the major frontrunners in the ever-growing world of “hip pop.” Drawing upon Bay-Area greats like E-40 and Sage the Gemini, the duo recently released their Chase Dreams EP, containing infectious jams like “Love Robbery” and twerk-inspired banger “Do My Step,” which has already sparked a Teach-Me-How-To-Dougie-style dance revolution of its own.

After just finishing up their sold-out “Chase Dreams” tour, the guys sat down with Idolator to chat about how this crazy journey all came about. More »

Nearly a year after “Applause,” the lead single off ARTPOP, arrived, Lady Gaga is back with an altogether different kind of release: her jazzy standards project with Tony Bennett, Cheek To Cheek. Today the pair pick up where they left off in 2011 with their Duets II cover of “The Lady Is A Tramp” by offering up the first taste of Cheek, “Anything Goes.”

Originally the title song from Cole Porter‘s 1934 Broadway musical, “Anything Goes” finds Gaga and Tony swapping lines amidst horns, cymbals and a big ol’ sax solo. All in all, it’s nice music to entertain guests to at your next classy dinner party.

Hilary Duff‘s appeal has always been that she’s part sexy girl next door, part nerdy goofball. And in her music video for comeback single “Chasing The Sun,” the onetime Disney princess plays up both sides to the hilt.

Here we see Duff portraying a weary office worker, who, as the song’s chorus goes, is literally chasing her ideal of a dreamy, sunny getaway, complete with a tall, dark and handsome hunk rubbing suntan lotion on her back and frolicking in the waves with her. We here at Idolator can totally relate, because our daily lives are Complete Hell. Oh, not really, but, you know… More »

Kylie Minogue teased her eye-popping GQ Italy cover on Instagram yesterday (July 28) and set tongues wagging with her beautiful bikini body. The full image surfaced online today and it’s a real jaw-dropper. The flawless 46-year-old poses partially bottomless thanks to an extremely well-trained poodle. You can even see a bit of crack!

The camp and playful (and thus quintessentially Kylie) shoot was helmed by Steve Shaw and he does a great job of capturing the pop goddess in all her glory without being smutty. She even poses without her bikini top in one pic, exposing some heavenly side-boob. But she’s at the beach and it’s for a European men’s publication, so it’s pretty restrained when you think about it. See the saucy snaps after the jump. More »

Who Is Troye Sivan? 10 Facts About The “Happy Little Pill” Hitmaker

Shawn's Big Debut
Vinelebrity Shawn Mendes' "Life Of The Party" is selling strong. Read More »

Troye Sivan is the latest teenager to make the leap from social media celebrity to pop star. The Australian, who built a massive YouTube following with personal vlogs, landed in the iTunes top 10 over the weekend with major label debut single “Happy Little Pill”. He made an even bigger impact with its parent EP TRXYE, which momentarily topped the album chart.

The 19-year-old’s success comes hot on the heels of Vine star Shawn Mendes, who recently debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Life Of The Party”. While the ability to leverage his huge social following certainly played a role in his success, “Happy Little Pill” is a surprisingly mature (and dark) pop anthem. If you’re not familiar with the new kid on the block, find 10 facts about Troye after the jump. More »
