Sia Swings Her “Chandelier” Into The Top 10

sia 1000 forms of fear

This isn’t the first time Sia has appeared in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, but it’s the first time she’s done so as a lead artist. This week sees the Australian singer-songwriter’s lead 1000 Forms Of Fear single “Chandelier” zip up to #9. The song has been steadily climbing since the premiere of its touching music video in the spring (and, in the process, has become a MTV Video Music Awards nominee for Video Of The Year).

Sia’s previous appearances as a featured vocalist in the Top 10 came with both David Guetta‘s “Titanium” (#7) and Flo Rida‘s “Wild Ones” in 2012. She also co-penned Rihanna‘s chart-topping “Diamonds” and Ne-Yo‘s “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” — two more that came out of what now appears to have been a very prolific songwriting period between 2011 and 2012.

At any rate, here’s to your first bonafide Top 10 single by you and you alone, Sia!

Natalie Imbruglia Plots A Comeback, Announces Fifth Album (Due March 2015)

Jul 30th, 2014 // Comment

Every ’90s kid knows that Natalie Imbruglia‘s Left Of The Middle is a flawless masterpiece from beginning to end. The angst-pop album, which was spearheaded by blockbuster single “Torn”, sold millions and earned the newcomer three Grammy nominations. She seemed unstoppable but experienced diminishing returns with subsequent releases and decided to concentrate on acting.

Happily, the much-missed Australian diva is plotting a major comeback. She just signed to new management and will release her as-yet-untitled fifth LP in March 2015 via Sony Masterworks. Natalie has already revealed that it’s covers album that focuses on the work of male artists including Neil Young and Daft Punk. I’d prefer new material (2009′s excellent Come To Life is a testament to her growth as a songwriter) but I’m still very much here for this. More »

Here’s James McVey (Of The Vamps) Working Out In His Underwear

Vamps Interview
We sat poolside with the UK band for a chat about their album. Read More »

The leading ladies of pop made Instagram a more ratchet place with saucy selfies, topless antics and random nudes but their male equivalents are making up for lost time. Cody Simpson (of all people) got the ball rolling by posting a snap of his butt, while One Direction‘s Liam Payne upped the ante by posting a (faux) full frontal pic. Now it’s James McVey‘s turn to carry the baton.

The Vamps‘ guitarist is something of a fitness fanatic, so it’s not too surprising that he posted some sweaty workout pics. It’s just that he’s only wearing his Calvin’s. “Tour bug leg raises” was all the 20-year-old had to say on the matter. He then posted a close-up of his rippling abs for the hell of it. Check out the Brit’s eye-popping exercise routine after the jump. More »

Earlier in 2014, Australian band 5 Seconds Of Summer made a splashy stateside debut with EP She Looks So Perfect, which went into the Billboard 200 at #2 and sold 143,000 copies in its first week. Michael, Luke, Calum and Ashton have now followed up that feat with the chart-topping debut of 5SOS’s self-titled LP, on the strength of 259,000 copies sold out of the gate.

As far as the year’s biggest debuts go, this now puts the quartet behind only Coldplay‘s Ghost Stories (383,000 in its first week) and Eric Church‘s The Outsiders (288,000). Expect 5 Seconds Of Summer to drum up even more interest in their first full-length release later in the summer, when they take the stage at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.

Until then, head below to see where the rest of the week’s players landed in the upper reaches of the album chart. More »

Iggy Azalea Joins The Cast Of ‘Fast & Furious 7′: Watch Vin Diesel Confirm Her Cameo

Iggy Remixed
Iggy and Rita's "Black Widow" gets a killer dance remix. Read More »

Iggy Azalea will make her movie debut in Fast & Furious 7 according to Vin Diesel. Insert lame joke about being in the fast lane from LA to Tokyo here. The actor was randomly asked which song he prefers to dance to out of “Fancy”Jason Derulo‘s “Wiggle” and Ariana Grande‘s “Problem” — because it’s important for mankind to know! — and promptly spilled the beans.

“I just worked with her two weeks ago,” the pop music enthusiast said of the Aussie femcee. “I guess you’ll be the first person to know this, we casted her in Fast & Furious 7. So I’m going to be loyal to Iggy.” Vin then explained that she has a small cameo in the film, so probably something along the lines of Rita Ora‘s appearance in the last sequel. (From memory she enthusiastically waved flags to start a race). See his interview after the jump. More »

Katy Perry Shades Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga (Sort Of) In ‘Rolling Stone’ Interview

Katy & Major Lazer
Katy Perry hits the studio with Major Lazer -- but for what? Read More »

Get your cultural appropriation thinkpieces ready: Katy Perry is issuing a response to the critics and/or haters lashing out at her for using mummies and Egyptian cultural iconography in her work, as evidenced on her Prismatic World Tour and her “Dark Horse” music video. Her reasoning? Kim Kardashian.

Wait, what?

From her upcoming cover story in Rolling Stone, courtesy of JustJared: “As far as the mummy thing, I based it on plastic surgery. Look at someone like Kim Kardashian or Ice-T’s wife, Coco. Those girls aren’t African-American. But it’s actually a representation of our culture wanting to be plastic, and that’s why there’s bandages and it’s mummies. I thought that would really correlate well together… It came from an honest place. If there was any inkling of anything bad, then it wouldn’t be there, because I’m very sensitive to people. I guess I’ll just stick to baseball and hot dogs, and that’s it. I know that’s a quote that’s gonna come to f*ck me in the ass, but can’t you appreciate a culture? I guess, like, everybody has to stay in their lane? I don’t know.”

Shots fired! The founder of Kim Kardashian: Hollywood — a plastic member of society? Come on now, Katy. Even you’ve admitted to feeling like a plastic (bag) sometimes. Let us not pass judgment! More »
