“For medical reasons independent of our will, the artist has been forced to cancel all promotional activities planned in Europe over the coming days,” a rep from Universal reportedly said in a statement. More »

Tony Bennett And Lady Gaga’s “Nature Boy”: Listen To Their Cover Of The 1940s Standard

Tony Bennett Lady Gaga Nature Boy

Jazzy pals Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga continue to roll out their Cheek To Cheek tracks ahead of the album’s release next week (on September 23). This time around it’s “Nature Boy,” a cover of the classic standard written by eden ahbez (yes, his name was in lower case) and made famous when the 1948 Nat King Cole version was released.

Says Gaga of this track (via a press release), “You will recognize ['Nature Boy'] also famously as used in Moulin Rouge, but our rendition with the now late multi-reedist Paul Horn is spectacular. Horn was meant to join Tony & me for the PBS special but sadly passed just weeks before, a New Age Jazz pioneer, lets celebrate him 2day. You will hear his genius in the flute solo of our ‘NATURE BOY’ a solo that will echo through the world today. And forever.” More »

Breach & Kelis Team Up For “The Key”: Listen To The Clubby Reworking Of ‘Food’ Track “Rumble”

Breach Kelis The Key

DJ/producer Breach has been on a roll in his native country of the UK, after racking up two Top 10 hits in 2013 (“Jack” and “Everything You Never Had”). For his stab at a hat trick, the British musician has paired up with chameleon-like songbird Kelis for a remix of her Food track “Rumble.” Re-titled “The Key” for its official single release, Breach pulls Kelis away from the neo-soul sound she experimented with on her most recent album, and puts her right back on the dancefloor.

That’s not to say “The Key” sounds anything like Kelis’ underrated 2010 foray into French electronic music, Flesh Tone. Rather, Breach gives a somewhat retro house zing to “Rumble” with this one, and in the process underscores the fact that Kelis really is one of the most versatile artists in modern pop. More »

Tove Lo’s “Timebomb”: Idolator Premiere

Tove Lo

Tove Lo is about to explode — in more ways than one.

Ever since we first heard “Habits (Stay High),” the lead track off of her fantastic Truth Serum EP released back in early March, we already knew that the Swedish singer-songwriter was about to burst in a big way on the pop scene.

Following the debut of her trippy visual for “Not On Drugs,” Tove is keeping the pop goodness coming ahead of the release of her forthcoming debut LP, Queen Of The Clouds, out on September 30.

And today, we’re bringing you one massive smash of an album track: “Timebomb,” available now if you pre-order the album. More »

Chris Brown’s ‘X’: Album Review

chris-brown-xI swear to God I’m moving on,” Chris Brown sings in the title track of his sixth album X (out today, September 16). He has insisted as much since he announced X early last year. Brown’s voice floats above a funky bass line and romantic strings on the LP’s first single “Fine China,” bringing to mind Michael Jackson in the early, more innocent days of his solo career. It’s his best impression of the King of Pop yet. However, the hook – “It’s alright, I’m not dangerous” – feels like a somewhat calculated answer to the questions Brown is still facing regarding the 2009 Rihanna incident: What has he learned since then? How does he intend to change? How will he deal with critics?

Brown has released three lackluster albums since that time (Graffiti, F.A.M.E. and Fortune), where he doubled down on both garish Eurohouse beats and his aggression during their most petulant moments. X‘s enduring hit, the Ty Dolla $ign-written “Loyal” is a more finessed example of how the singer’s outlook on women would become horribly retrograde. (Lil Wayne and Tyga join him in flashing money to steal girls from other men, only they all sound offended once they’re the ones left behind.) Despite what “Loyal” hinted, though, X is actually an uneven, though still welcome attempt showing that the troubled Brown wants to change.

Usher Conquers The ‘American Ninja Warrior’ Obstacle Course In ‘The Ellen Show’ Parking Lot: Watch

usher-american-ninja-ellen

You could grate cheese on Usher‘s six-pack, so it’s not exactly surprising to discover that he’s the fittest man in popular music. The R&B superstar demonstrated his superior athletic ability on today’s (September 15) episode of The Ellen Show by taking on (and conquering) the demanding American Ninja Warrior obstacle course in the studio’s parking lot.

The 35-year-old, who is currently promoting his upcoming The UR Experience tour, demolished the course like a veteran Navy Seal — jumping over objects, climbing walls and hanging off railings like a professional. Usher is still putting the finishing touches on his eighth studio album, which still has no official release date. See the crooner’s athletic side after the jump. More »
