While Britney Spears enters the next chapter of her career with a Vegas residency (no big deal), her little sister Jamie Lynn Spears launched her career on a very good note with her debut country single “How Could I Want More” — and there’s more tunes coming soon, as the younger Spears promises in an interview with Billboard that “a full album is in the works.” Excellent!
As for competition between the “Chillin’ With You” collaborators, Jamie Lynn insists there’s none: “Me and Brit, I’m sure no one believes me when I say, there is no rivalry! You have to remember that we are 10 years apart, so I always saw her as a second mom. We have fun like only sisters can, but we don’t have that young sibling rivalry. She was one of the first people to call and tell me how proud she was of the success of ["More"], so charts won’t come between me and her — never will!” Well, so much for that. More »
Sage The Gemini is one of 2013′s breakout hip-hop stars. The Bay Area MC is currently storming the charts with two hits songs — “Red Nose” and “Gas Pedal” — and even sparked a dance craze with the latter. (Think of yiking as twerking on steroids!)
No doubt, a whole new audience will be inspired to bump and grind their way across the dancefloor with new dance remixes of “Gas Pedal”. The infectious anthem has been given a house overhaul by the ever reliable Dave Aude and it’s safe bet that you’ll be hearing it in clubs throughout December. Listen after the jump. More »
Jessica Sanchez recently recorded a new song called “Lead Me Home” for charity compilation Heartbeat Of Home. All proceeds from the towering ballad go to Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts in the Philippines, so there’s no excuse not to add this to your collection.
The video is a suitably simple affair. It’s basically Jessica performing the song in the studio with a couple of black-and-white scenes thrown in for good measure. The thing is — you don’t need bells and whistles when you’ve got meaningful lyrics and superb vocals. Watch up top. More »
When Justin Bieber asks you to collaborate, you say yes. That’s just the level he has reached in his career right now, and it’s why he’s been able to snag recent features from the likes of R. Kelly and Big Sean (and apparently has a mega-collab on the way involving Lil Wayne and Diplo). The latest person to hop on the Biebs express is Chicago’s weird-rap darling Chance The Rapper. Earlier this week, Complex got word that the two were working on a pair of songs, and today (December 4), Bieber announced the first one, called “Confident.”
Up top is the artwork for the latest #MusicMondays release, which will drop Sunday night/Monday morning at midnight. Head below to see his tweet with the announcement, as well as his exchange with Chance, who is about 72 hours away from exploding. More »
Mariah Carey and two of her biggest fans — Leona Lewis and Ariana Grande — kicked off the festive season last night (December 4) with stellar performances on NBC’s Christmas In Rockefeller Center. Given Mimi’s obvious influence on the careers of her co-stars, the sparkly Xmas special turned out to be something of a diva duel. And they all brought their A-games.
When it comes to Christmas, nobody does it better than Mariah. Period. The queen of the holidays looked ravishing in her plunging gowns and showed off her full range with spectacular renditions of “Joy To The World” and her own Yuletide classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You”.
Wearing a shiny gold dress, Leona more than held her own with perky holiday hit “One More Sleep” and a glorious interpretation of “White Christmas”. Her backing vocalists could do with dance lessons though. Also on the bill was Yours Truly songbird Ariana Grande, who expertly performed new single “Love Is Everything”. Watch the divas in action after the jump. More »
Well! Tamar Braxton may be delivering spectacular seasonal gifts to her Tamartians in the form of some new music videos, but yikes — here’s hoping her holiday season goes better than this video would suggest. After she brought the drama with her “All The Way Home” video, the clip for her latest single from Winter Loverland, “She Can Have You,” takes an even more tortured turn: After spotting her no-good ex-beau on the street with his new boo, Tamar has a minor meltdown at home, surrounded by Christmas cheer that doesn’t seem to be lifting her mood much. She drinks straight from the bottle! She starts attacking her Christmas tree! She even throws a pillow! Don’t trifle with a woman scorned — especially around the holidays.
It’s another worthy effort from the campy R&B diva. Call it a winner-dot-com. More »
