Sophie Ellis-Bextor Has Started Working On Her Sixth Studio Album

6 Albums That Got Us Through The Polar Vortex
6 Albums That Got Us Through The Polar Vortex
In 2014, we literally lived through one of the most epically sucktastic winters in recorded history.

British pop darling Sophie Ellis-Bextor only just dropped an album last year, but she’s already heading back into the studio.

The “Murder On The Dance Floor” songstress might be best known for her brand of icy dance-pop tunes over the years, but Ellis-Bextor surprised fans with her wondrously dreamy foray into more folk-driven pop with Wanderlust at the top of 2014. The album, which charted at #4 in the UK and produced singles like “Young Blood” and “Runaway Daydreamer,” went on to become Sophie’s most successful record since her 2001 solo debut, Read My Lips. And judging by her latest Instagram, it seems she’s going to continue down that same sonic path.

“We have begun! Day one songwriting for album 6 with @edharcourt,” she wrote in a cheerful selfie with producer Ed Harcourt, who co-helmed the entirety of Wanderlust. What are you hoping to hear from Sophie’s next effort?

Check out the Instagram after the jump, and give us your dream Sophie scenario in the comments below. More »

He Discusses Backstreet Boys Documentary 'Show ’Em What You’re Made Of.'

After releasing their debut self-titled EP in December, Lion Babe are back with the video for the latest tune — “Treat Me Like Fire.” This actually serves as “visual #2,” as the first one was revealed a little over two years ago when the duo just began their music careers.

That one was a little raw, while the current one has a more polished appeal (they recently signed to Interscope Records). The black and white clip finds lead singer Jillian Hervey dancing freely while her wild mane ruffles in the air. “Treat Me Like Fire” follows tunes like the Childish Gambino-assisted “Jump Hi” and “Jungle Lady,” all off Lion Babe’s debut EP (released on December 15). Even prior to world hearing his In The Lonely Hour debut album (released in May 2014), Sam Smith has been one of the biggest pop stars to keep on your radar. Now in the latest issue of Rolling Stone, he is reflecting on his musical journey.

For one thing, he quite over everyone comparing him to Adele“We’re very different, and I feel like the constant comparisons might piss her off,” he tells the magazine. “It just annoys me that people can’t digest two pop stars singing really personal songs who don’t look like normal pop stars.”

As for his upcoming Grammys performance? He has cayenne-pepper juice regime to prep himself: “I’m just very body-conscious. Sometimes I’m really proud that I don’t look like other pop stars. But there’s also moments where I’m like, ‘Ugh, I wish I had abs like Bieber,” he muses. More »

The pregnant country-pop princess appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to chat with the host and perform her new single.

Carrie Underwood is kicking off 2015 with a bang — a bang bang, actually — with her “Little Toy Guns.”

After washing away the pain with her inspirational, Grammy Award-nominated “Something In The Water,” the country diva is pulling the trigger on her next selection from her 2014 greatest hits compilation, Greatest Hits: Decade #1.

The emotional track, which chronicles a tough situation at home between warring parents and a terrified child, was co-written alongside Hillary Lindsey and Chris DeStefano. “So excited to announce my new single, ‘Little Toy Guns’. Hope you love this song as much as I do!” she wrote on Instagram along with the single art, which features the songstress looking solemn in front of lyrics scrawled in the background.

Nick Carter Discusses Backstreet Boys Documentary ‘Show ’Em What You’re Made Of’: Idolator Interview

TLC Interview
TLC Interview
We talk to the ladies about their upcoming album & their enduring legacy.

The biggest-selling boy band of all time, Backstreet Boys have never been more honest and revealing about where they are in their now 22-year-long career than in their new documentary, Show ’Em What You’re Made Of. Opening in theaters (and also available on iTunes and VOD) on Friday, January 30, the documentary paints a revealing picture of AJ, Howie, Nick, Brian and Kevin’s lives onstage and off, as they reminisce, write music and prep for the 2013 release of both their album, In a World Like This, and subsequent reunion tour.

Through vintage footage, unguarded moments and more access to the band than has ever been available before, Show ’Em What You’re Made Of is a record of where the BSBs have been, where they’re going and why we still love them so very much.

We stopped fanning out long enough to grill Nick Carter on staying passionate about music, keeping five alpha male egos in check and a zombie Western movie he’s written for himself. More »

Marina And The Diamonds‘ fourth buzz track (or her Froot of the Month) is here, and it is a stunner! Titled “I’m A Ruin,” the mid-tempo song finds the Welsh singer reflecting on life and how she’s been loving selfishly: “I know that I can’t have it all/ But without you I’m afraid I’ll fall.” The tense vocals are backed by lush, throwback synths and hard-hitting drums.

“I’m A Ruin” is off Marina And The Diamonds’ forthcoming third studio LP Froot (out April 3), which includes tracks like “Happy,” “Immortal” and — of course — the quirky title track. Along with the new album, the singer will take the stage at some of the year’s biggest music festivals: SXSW, Coachella and NYC’s Governors Ball. The annual Juno Awards nominations are here, and Magic! is leading the pack!

Madonna Plays A Drinking Game, Talks Music Leaks And Taylor Swift In Australian ‘Today’ Interview

Drink Up!
Madonna's Hacker's Arrest
Madonna's Hacker's Arrest
An Israeli hacker was arrested for reportedly stealing Madonna's personal computer and leaking the Rebel Heart demos.

“This is not going to be your average interview, K? We’re going to play a drinking game. A drinking game-uh. You are familiar with drinking, right?” And so begins what is already an iconic Madonna interview with Richard Wilkins for Australia’s Today.

The promotional campaign is just heating up for Madge’s 13th studio album Rebel Heart, and this time around, she’s having her interviewers drink a shot of tequila every time they ask a stupid question — and taking a shot for every mindblowingly amazing question she’s asked. “I’m not very drunk, but everyone who walks out of here is.”

The Queen Of Pop also talks her music leak (“I can’t begin to tell you how betrayed I felt”), her daughter Lourdes (“she’s very opinionated”), as well as pop princess like Taylor Swift. And guess what? She’s a fan of the “Blank Space” songstress. “It’s good to have princesses. It means there’s lots of pretty dresses around. I like Taylor Swift. I think she writes really catchy pop songs. Can’t get them out of my head,” she dishes. More »
