The fifth season of The Voice draws to a close next week with a blockbuster two-hour finale featuring performances from Lady Gaga and Celine Dion. Mother Monster will belt out current single “Do What U Want”, while the Canadian superstar teams up with Ne-Yo for Loved Me Back To Life highlight “Incredible”.
Lady Gaga is an interesting choice given the ARTPOP diva’s never quite resolved feud with Christina Aguilera, who acts as a judge on the show. No doubt the superstars will kiss and make up for the cameras but they should have the Born Brave bus gassed and ready to go in case sparks fly. More »
Duke Dumont proved his mettle as the British DJ to beat this year: His collaboration with rising songbird A*M*E, “Need U (100%),” was one of the best tracks of the summer and just nabbed him a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording (no big deal), and his MNEK team-up “Hold On” was equally luscious. Now, he’s dropped what might just be his best yet: A track with siren Jax Jones called “I Got U” that’s all warm, summery good-feeling, catchy and euphoric.
A pulsating beat with velvety vocals from Jones — “Ask me what I did with my life / I spent it with you” she croons — and delicious vocal samples make it a surefire winner. In fact, it was so good that when DJ Annie Mac premiered it on her radio show, she stopped halfway through to play it from the beginning. That’s a tune. More »
Kelly Rowland was in a candid mood when she dropped by The Arsenio Hall Show last night (December 11). The Destiny’s Child diva was questioned about her various endeavors (X Factor, workout DVDs etc) before the conversation turned to Talk A Good Game buzz single “Dirty Laundry”, which touched on the jealousy she felt towards Beyonce.
After explaining the recording process with The-Dream, Kelly opened up about her career path.”As a woman can’t expect to be on somebody else’s level and don’t allow other people to put you on somebody else’s level and look at what somebody else has thinking ‘I want that’,” she explained.
“You should want your own path,” the “Kisses Down Low” songstress continued. “I don’t want my sister’s path. I don’t want anybody else’s path. I want my own… but it took me a long time to figure that out.” Kelly’s honesty and wisdom drew a round of applause from the audience. Watch the compelling interview up top. More »
Lea Michele‘s debut single “Cannonball” was warmly received by critics and is already sitting pretty in the iTunes top 20. To my ears, however, it was a little stuffy and hard to distinguish for other Sia-by-numbers power ballads. No worries! Dave Aude solves both problems by giving the track a welcome dance overhaul.
There’s a long tradition of turning ballads into club candy going all the way back to Toni Braxton‘s “Unbreak My Heart”. Dave Aude does a skillful job of ramping up the BPM without murdering the song’s sentiment, while Lea’s vocal soars prettily over the his fast and furious synths. Listen after the jump. More »
Watch out Mariah, Kelly Clarkson is coming for your Queen of Christmas crown! The newly-wed diva is nudging her way up the Billboard Hot 200 with seasonal set Wrapped In Red and delighted viewers last night (December 11) with NBC special Kelly Clarkson’s Cautionary Christmas Music Tale.
One of the highlights was Kelly’s gorgeous rendition of “Silent Night”, which she subsequently uploaded to VEVO to serve as the song’s live video. It starts with the first (and best) American Idol winner alone on a festive stage before being joined by country divas Trisha Yearwood and Reba McEntire for some killer harmonizing. Watch up top. You can stop speculating on that Rihanna/Shakira collaboration! The tantalizing duet was inadvertently confirmed by Pitbull in an interview on Kid Kraddick In The Morning. Mr. Worldwide was asked about his blockbuster hit “Timber” and admitted that the song was originally intended for RiRi.
Here’s where it get interesting. “That is an ironic situation there,” Pit said. “The person we were looking at first to work on that record was actually Rihanna and Rihanna had something she had to do with Shakira, so she wasn’t able to work on our record.” He then thanked Ke$ha for helping the track become a global smash.
