Maybe Nicki Minaj just didn’t twerk her anaconda charmer hard enough. The Young Money rapstress’ third studio album The Pinkprint has become her first to miss out on the top spot on the Billboard 200 (so far, at least), as it debuts this week at #2, while Taylor Swift‘s unstoppable 1989 returns to the #1 position for a sixth non-consecutive trip to the chart throne.
Billboard notes that 1989 shifted 375,000 more total units, with 331,000 of those being album sales. Minaj’s Pinkprint starts out with 244,000 units, 194,000 of which were album sales. More »
Rejoice, all fans of spectactular pop — Stuart Price is officially producing the upcoming 13th studio album from the Pet Shop Boys! Back in early September, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe announced via their official website that they were “planning to start work on a new album in November.” The iconic UK duo have been quiet on the updates since then, especially regarding who’d be handling production duties…until now. The gents of One Direction offered up their one-hour NBC TV Special last night, which found the fab five belting out hits from their recent chart-topping album Four as well as their very first single, “What Makes You Beautiful.” (Is that one considered an oldie at this point, Directioners?)
The live segments were recorded in Orlando at the Universal Studios theme park, and the televised shebang also included behind-the-scenes clips of 1D on the road, plus an interview with the guys on a roller coaster.
My god, how much boy-band excitement can possibly be packed into 60 minutes? More »
In many ways, 2014 was the year of the celebrity nude. Never before has ditching your clothes in the name of artistic expression — and free publicity — been so accepted and common-place. The leading ladies of pop took turns upping the ante in raunchy magazine shoots (let’s be honest, Rihanna won), while guys also got in on the act — posing in underwear and, in the case of one extremely popular boy band, sending a dick pic to fans.
To celebrate the nude achievements of our beloved pop divas, I’ve curated a gallery of their best topless moments. (Don’t worry, ladies. An equivalent male gallery is on the way!) Special mention must go to Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj, Madonna and RiRi for their tireless dedication to nudity. All of them went above and beyond — posing for multiple semi-clothed photo shoots. Peruse their finest pics up top. More »

:: Madonna‘s Rebel Heart album continues to leak at an alarming rate. She jumped on Instagram yesterday (December 23) and urged fans not to listen to the 14 new demos that surfaced online. “Real rebels think for themselves! Real rebels respect art! Real rebels are rebels in their #rebelheart,” the pop icon wrote. [Digital Spy]
:: Speaking of legendary female artists, Whitney Houston‘s biopic will be screened on Lifetime in early 2015. New details about the project have emerged including the fact that the R&B icon might have had a lesbian affair with long-time friend Robyn Crawford. [Pink Is The New Blog]
:: Ciara is moving on from on-again/off-again boyfriend Future. She was spotted with a nasty scab on her finger where a tattoo of the rapper’s initial used to be. I guess laser removal is one way to close the door on an unhealthy relationship! [TMZ]
:: Kudos to Pete Wentz. The Fall Out Boy bassist is 35-years-old but that didn’t stop him going rollerskating in a neon yellow tank-top. I’m not sure if he quite pulls it off (I don’t think anyone on the planet could) but you got to respect a fashion maverick. [Just Jared]

Can Beyonce please give Madonna some pointers on keeping your tracks under wraps? The pop icon’s Rebel Heart campaign suffered another major setback today (December 23) when 14 new demos leaked. This follows the early arrival of several songs last week, six of which were subsequently rush-released on iTunes. Unless the enduring diva has another dozen or so songs locked away, her 13th album is now online in one form or another.
It’s an irritating development because Rebel Heart already feels/sounds like the 56-year-old’s most convincing set since 2005′s Confessions On A Dance Floor. The six legally-available tracks give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from the new material. Nothing matches the quality of ’90s-referencing lead single “Living For Love” or gorgeous synth-ballad “Ghosttown,” but there are plenty of gems that demand multiple listens.
Protest anthem “Freedom” is as timely as it is pretty, while “Beautiful Scars” finds Madonna at her most vulnerable. There are, however, some unfortunate duds. Self-help floorfiller “Iconic” doesn’t live up to its title, “God Is Love” is well-intentioned but awful, and “Veni Vidi Vici” sounds like a reject from Hard Candy. These tunes may or may not make the final cut, but, at the very least, they prove the Material Girl is on the right track. See a list of the latest leaks after the jump. More »
From Iggy Azalea to Vance Joy, the Aussie music scene continues to produce talent with massive global appeal. Another act to keep an eye on is Masketta Fall. The band signed with Universal Australia this year and wasted no time dropping an extremely catchy pop/rock anthem called “Summertime Girls.” The track, which is already gaining serious airplay, is more accessible than their independently-released music and is shaping up to be a massive hit.
While the upbeat anthem stands on its own, there are distinct similarities with fellow Australian pop/rockers 5 Seconds Of Summer. It will be interesting to see how the dudes from Masketta Fall differentiate themselves from 5SOS (they could try not sending dick pics to fans?) if the band takes off. Until then, “Summertime Girls” is the perfect antidote for winter gloom. Watch the amusing, Bad Grandpa-inspired video after the jump. More »
While most pop stars are already enjoying their Christmas break, Nick Jonas is still out there promoting his new album. The 22-year-old dropped by Live With Kelly & Michael this morning (December 23) to chat about his breakthrough year and answer light-hearted questions about Christmas shopping for “needy” brother Joe Jonas. As usual, he oozed charm and probably won another thousand fans for each second he appeared on the show.
The “Jealous” hitmaker spoke about the inspiration for that song (somebody stared at his girl), beefing up for his role as a mixed martial artist on Kingdom and his upcoming tour with Iggy Azalea. In addition to making breakfast television worthwhile, Nick also uploaded a cute acoustic version of “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” to his Facebook account. If you need yet another reason to swoon over the heartthrob, check it out after the jump. More »
After building a huge online following with amazing buzz tracks and high-profile features, Becky G finally had a well-deserved commercial breakthrough with “Shower.” The irresistible earworm exploded on pop radio over the summer and subsequently became the 17-year-old’s first top 20 entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Instead of following that smash with another power-pop anthem, she took a very different approach with “Can’t Stop Dancin’.”
Produced by mentor Dr. Luke and Cirkut, the slinky, mid-tempo jam shows a more mature side to the teen queen. For starters, she sings (as opposed to raps) most of the song and wanders into some (comparatively) steamy lyrical territory. It’s another excellent tune, but hasn’t really clicked with fans yet. Perhaps a new dance remix will sit better the million or so people that downloaded “Shower,” or at least help “Can’t Stop Dancin’” take off in clubs. The Kesha/Dr. Luke legal battle took another interesting twist today (December 23). Lawyers for the producer amended his defamation lawsuit to include a christmas card the “Timber” diva sent him after being signed. “To the foxxy-est producer ever! Ur just getting better with time! Thank you for making my wildest dreams come true!” she wrote. Emails her mother sent to the man behind hits like “Dark Horse” and “Wrecking Ball” have also been included.
One email sent in 2011 congratulates Dr. Luke on the birth of his daughter. “I know you are going to be a great dad,” Pebe Sebert enthuses. Another email, sent in 2009, states: “You are part of our family.” The correspondence is being used to refute Kesha’s claims that she was sexually, emotionally and physically abused by the producer. This development comes after K$’s lawyer accused the 41-year-old of raping Lady Gaga — an allegation she immediately denied. More »
