Katy Perry‘s blockbuster “Dark Horse” visual is the most-watched music video of 2014 (thus far) with just under 500 million views. It’s hardly surprising given the dazzling special effects and iconic choreography. The rest of the countdown contains a bunch of familiar faces including Shakira, who appears twice with “Can’t Remember To Forget You” and “La La La (Brazil 2014)”, and Iggy Azalea.

More surprising is the YouTube slayage of Enrique Iglesias. He also has two entries in the top 10 with current smash “Bailando” and Spanish language hit “El Perdedor”. The high ranking of The Chainsmokers‘ “#Selfie” underlines its online popularity, while Pitbull cements his status as Mr. Worldwide by racking up hundreds of millions of views for “We Are One”. Neon Jungle surprised a lot of people by covering Banks“Waiting Game” on their debut LP Welcome To The Jungle — including the song’s composer. It turns out nobody asked the Goddess diva for her permission and she’s understandably miffed about the situation. So much so that she jumped on Facebook and wrote her fans (and the British girl band) an open letter.

“People keep asking why I let Neon Jungle put my song ‘Waiting Game’ on their album when my album has yet to come out,” Banks writes. “The answer is I was never asked. I was as shocked as you to see this song made up of my own heartbeats on their album. A song that was born from my real life, my real heartache, my real fingertips when I was at one of the most confusing times in my life.”

The rising star also has some sharp words for the band. “I am a new artist and new to this business and I am told it is legal,” the 26-year-old admits. “But it feels really icky. I guess I can only hope ‘Waiting Game’ means as much to Neon Jungle as it did to me when I wrote it.” Ouch. It sounds like someone (at both labels) really dropped the ball on this one. More »

Katy Perry Accused Of Jacking Brooke Candy’s Style In “This Is How We Do” Promo Pic

Katy Perry teased her much-anticipated “This Is How We Do” video with a promo pic on Instagram yesterday (July 29) and internet detectives were quick to point out obvious similarities with an old Brooke Candy photo shoot. For starters, both divas rock bleached eyebrows, long braids and white tops. It’s unfortunate but aren’t both ladies lifting the look from ’90s rave culture?

Anyway, the “Opulence” singer’s fans weren’t having it and they tweeted up a storm about Katy’s alleged thievery. I’m sure the Prism hitmaker isn’t too concerned. “This Is How We Do” sounds like another massive hit and, let’s be real, you’re basically irrelevant until someone clocks you for having sticky fingers. Just ask Beyonce and Rihanna. See the shadiest tweets from Brooke’s supporters after the jump. More »

Dami Im is shaping up to be a very promising pop star. The 25-year-old won X Factor Australia in 2013 and released a pleasant (if somewhat underwhelming) winner’s single called “Alive”. It didn’t really do her voice or kooky personality justice but she got it just right on second single “Super Love” and now keeps that momentum going with another soaring pop anthem.

“Not in it for the glory, I just hope you’re waiting for me,” sings the Korean-born diva sweetly on “Gladiator” before pulling the trigger in the atomic-powered chorus: “Never gonna give up, I won’t let nobody harm ya. I will fight for your love like a gladiator!” Produced by Swedish trio Trinity, Dami’s latest single is pure-pop delight that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Katy Perry album. Sia Swings Her “Chandelier” Into The Top 10

sia 1000 forms of fear

This isn’t the first time Sia has appeared in the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, but it’s the first time she’s done so as a lead artist. This week sees the Australian singer-songwriter’s lead 1000 Forms Of Fear single “Chandelier” zip up to #9. The song has been steadily climbing since the premiere of its touching music video in the spring (and, in the process, has become a MTV Video Music Awards nominee for Video Of The Year).

Sia’s previous appearances as a featured vocalist in the Top 10 came with both David Guetta‘s “Titanium” (#7) and Flo Rida‘s “Wild Ones” in 2012. She also co-penned Rihanna‘s chart-topping “Diamonds” and Ne-Yo‘s “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” — two more that came out of what now appears to have been a very prolific songwriting period between 2011 and 2012.

At any rate, here’s to your first bonafide Top 10 single by you and you alone, Sia!

Natalie Imbruglia Plots A Comeback, Announces Fifth Album (Due March 2015)

Jul 30th, 2014 // Comment

Every ’90s kid knows that Natalie Imbruglia‘s Left Of The Middle is a flawless masterpiece from beginning to end. The angst-pop album, which was spearheaded by blockbuster single “Torn”, sold millions and earned the newcomer three Grammy nominations. She seemed unstoppable but experienced diminishing returns with subsequent releases and decided to concentrate on acting.

Happily, the much-missed Australian diva is plotting a major comeback. She just signed to new management and will release her as-yet-untitled fifth LP in March 2015 via Sony Masterworks. Natalie has already revealed that it’s covers album that focuses on the work of male artists including Neil Young and Daft Punk. I’d prefer new material (2009′s excellent Come To Life is a testament to her growth as a songwriter) but I’m still very much here for this. More »
