Under The Radar

Robbie Williams will release a new rarities album on December 1 – yes, as in three days from now – exclusively through his official website. Under the Radar Vol. 1 will feature B-sides, demos and other previously unreleased songs. An example of the latter is “Run It Wild,” a song that he “once got very, very excited for” and prepped for last year’s Take the Crown stadium tour, as explained in his announcement video (above). Clearly, his cat has felt exactly the same way.

Following a one-off performance at the London Palladium, the Brit-pop veteran embarked a 46-date European tour this year for 2013′s Swings Both Ways, his second swing album that featured duets with Kelly Clarkson (“Little Green Apples”), Rufus Wainwright, Michael Buble, Lily Allen and tour opener Olly Murs. Williams also appeared in Avicii‘s new song “The Days.” However, he still wasn’t as active in music as he could have been, as he bowed out of Take That‘s still-forthcoming reunion album, due later this year.

Under the Radar Vol. 1 is available for preorder now. Watch Robbie Williams announce the rarities set up top. Below, watch performances from his 2001 live DVD Live at the Albert, which he uploaded to his official YouTube just yesterday (November 27). More »

Madonna’s Long-Teased “Rebel Heart”: Listen To A Snippet

Madonna's Playful, Sassy & Bizarre Selfies:
Madonna's Playful, Sassy & Bizarre Selfies:
17 Photos Of The Queen Running Amok On Instagram

Back in March, Madonna hinted of a new song titled “Rebel Heart.” That became the first of dozens of signs – sheet music, snapshots, hashtags, statements from Diplo, William Orbit‘s approval – that yes, a follow-up to 2012′s MDNA is coming. But the legendary artist has yet to reveal new music to correspond with her shameless selfies. So naturally, as hype reached a fever pitch, a snippet of Madonna’s “Rebel Heart” leaked online.

Produced by Avicii, the tune has fans drawing comparisons to her 2003 album American Life — an earnest attempt to blend folksy protest songs with dance anthems a decade before “Wake Me Up.” The lyrics have them raising their eyebrows, due to their past tense wording: “I spent some time as a narcissist / hearing the others say ‘Look at you, look at you’/ trying to be so provocative/ I said, ‘Oh yeah, that was me’/All the things I did just to be seen…” (See: her Instagram feed.)

What seems most promising about this snippet, though, is that after her list of collaborators has piled up, Madonna still sounds like she’s in charge. Hear it below. More »

Taylor Swift Performs “Shake It Off” During Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: Watch

She shows readers "How to Be a Supergirl" in five adorkable pics.

Taylor Swift spent Thanksgiving Day with her extended family, playing with toy drones. (Turn down the volume.) Yet she didn’t get the entire holiday off! During Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade broadcast, Swift stayed inside a studio to perform 1989 smash hit “Shake It Off.” (Only CBS showed this live rendition, while NBC featured the Great American Marching Band’s spirited cover instead.)

Being pop music’s BFF and all, Swift appeared happy to be there. When the “Blank Space” star wasn’t acting as Diana Ross to her troupe of backup singer-dancers — how fitting, given recent events — she eyed one of her saxophonists and spanked the ass of another, right when she was getting down to that sick beat. Watch Swift perform “Shake It Off” for Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade up top (turn the volume back up), then see her holiday snapshots below. More »

Nick Jonas, Meghan Trainor And Becky G Perform At Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade: Watch

Watch these stars perform during the season finale.

Meghan Trainor entertained the holiday audience and performed her current single, “Lips Are Movin,” at the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This spectacle aims to impress with its marching bands, colorful floats, larger-than-life balloons and a foolproof, dozens-plus musical line-up. What ended up being the center of attention, though, was how badly some of these artists were lip-syncing.

Some acts did pull it off, bless their hearts. The Vamps was convincing. So was Nick Jonas, though an inappropriate float dancer distracted from his performance. Idina Menzel belted “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” only for her mic to be cut off. Annie star Quvenzhané Wallis hit every lyric of “Hard Knock Life,” though she didn’t seem thrilled to perform it as Britney Spears would, complete with a headset mic. (Remember, she recently turned 11.)  More »

Frank Ocean Returns With New Song “Memrise”: Listen

For the past two years, Frank Ocean has mostly kept to himself. Last year he teamed with Pharrell, Danger Mouse and Tyler, the Creator to record new music, only to go back into hiding. (He likely camped out at some studio, though no one but him knows for sure.) This spring the musician said that he wrapped his sophomore effort, the follow-up to 2012′s channel ORANGE, only to leave that news at that. He posted a shirtless selfie, only to (try to) delete it.

Earlier today (November 28), though, Ocean returned from obscurity with a song posted to his Tumblr. Likely, this grainy, lo-fi version of the reportedly titled “Memrise” is a demo; here, it sounds as if he escaped Los Angeles to some cabin in the woods. Yet as is, the song is already pretty evocative. With a tap on his computer keyboard, his lovelorn falsetto hovers above a formless groove before it eventually lands on one of his most direct lyrics yet: “I memorized your body exposed / I could fuck you all night long from a memory alone.” Hear it below. Mr. Worldwide Does It Again
Pitbull And Bebe Rexha's Killer Collab
Pitbull And Bebe Rexha's Killer Collab
Pitbull and Bebe Rexha join forces on 'Globalization' highlight "This Is Not A Drill".

Pitbull is on a roll. The MC successfully hosted the American Music Awards on Sunday night (November 23) and immediately launched a promo blitz for new LP Globalization. Mr. Worldwide even had Lorde gushing. “I met pitbull backstage, felt this wave of his charisma and loveliness wash over me, probably not dissimilar to meeting the president,” she raved on Twitter. What’s next for the rap mogul? A killer performance of Dr. Luke-produced single “Time Of Our Lives” on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

There are much better songs on Globalization — check out Chris Brown-assisted earworm “Fun” or brilliant Bebe Rexha collaboration “This Is Not A Drill” — but “Time Of Our Lives” is slowly winning me over a little more with each live performance. Guest vocalist Ne-Yo did a typically incredible job with the song, while Pitbull was his usual ball of energy, bouncing around the stage like a mad man. See the suave fellas do their thing up top. Future Islands’ Breakthrough Hit “Seasons (Waiting On You)” Gets Remixed By Jazz Trio BADBADNOTGOOD

Future Islands made the leap from indie-darlings to festival headliners in 2014 thanks to the synth-pop gem “Seasons (Waiting On You)” and one hell of a performance on the Late Show With David Letterman. (The fact that their fourth LP Singles is pretty much perfect also helped). The band is celebrating their banner by releasing a staggeringly good jazz remix (!) by avant garde trio BADBADNOTGOOD. And they are even giving it away for free.

“We all love the original version of the song, and we were honored to have the opportunity to try and remix it,” BADBADNOTGOOD bass play Chester Hansen says. “We heard Sam’s isolated singing and realized how soulful and emotive it was and seemed to sound the best was re-harmonizing the chords and taking it in a soul direction.” The process? “We came up with a slow groove for the verse that let the vocals breathe, and played the chorus double time to make it more powerful. After we laid down the rhythm track, we overdubbed guitar, keys and a bunch of other parts to fill it out. Take a listen after the jump. More »

Mia Martina Teases Stills From Her “HFH” (Or “Heart Fucking Hurts”) Video: Idolator Exclusive

After building a loyal cult following with club hits “Heartbreaker”, “La La” and the Dev-assisted “Danse”, Canadian dance diva Mia Martina is gearing up to release “HFH” (or “Heart Fucking Hurts”) as her debut US single. The expletive-filled break-up anthem represents a change of direction for the 29-year-old with its raw and emotional lyrics.

“When creating ‘HFH’, I wanted to capture exactly how you feel when someone you love hurts you,” Mia tells Idolator. “I think sometimes it is really hard to express those emotions verbally, so I wanted to create a song that everyone could relate to at some point in their life. That’s why I decided to release this song first in the U.S. — it expresses a feeling that many people have experienced and I want my fans to feel relatable to me and also get to know me on a personal level.”

The club queen kindly shared some pics from the set of the “HFH” video shoot and it looks very promising. Mia looks incredible, there are mask-clad cellists and a room plastered with graffiti. Check out our exclusive stills after the jump and get acquainted with the fiery gem. More »
