The 42nd annual American Music Awards kicked off tonight (November 23) live from Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, with awards given out to some of our favorite (and biggest) musicians of the year!
One Direction turned out to be the night’s major winners, as the cute British lads took home three awards for Favorite Band, Duo or Group; Favorite Pop/Rock Album with Midnight Memories and Artist of the Year! “Beg For It” rapstress Iggy Azalea won Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album for The New Classic. “Blank Space” diva, a.ka. Taylor Swift, won the most prestigious award, with the legendary Diana Ross presenting her with the first-ever Dick Clark Award of Excellence!
Other highlights included everyone’s favorite crooner Sam Smith winning Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Katy Perry nagging Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist and 5 Seconds Of Summer proving their escalating popularity with the younger generation with their New Artist of the Year win.

While most pop divas arrived at tonight’s (November 23) American Music Awards in Los Angeles in formal wear, a couple of brave ladies decided to have a little fun. The Award for attention-seeking/fabulousness goes to Albanian pop star Bleona. She rocked up to the event wearing a sheer body stocking with only pasties for coverage. Respect. Skylar Grey also had zero fucks to spare — wearing a beanie and male rap drag. Again, well-played.
Other noteworthy outfits belonged to Rita Ora, who looked typically stunning in a canary yellow gown and girl-next-door Becky G. She transformed herself into a very sophisticated lady in her gorgeous white dress. Oh and let’s not forget Zendaya, who turned up looking like Diana Ross circa 1974 in a gold lame pantsuit. Mary Lambert, Katy Tiz and Mary J. Blige all looked amazing but Jessie J had the best accessory — boyfriend Luke James. More »
One Direction rocked the red carpet at tonight’s (November 23) American Music Awards in Los Angeles in their coordinated black outfits. The boys looked pretty glum (with the exception of a beaming Liam Payne) and that was reflected by their clothes. Louis Tomlinson could have been mistaken for a loan shark/bouncer, while Harry Styles looked like a grieving folk singer. Zayn Malik looked sharp but dazed, while Niall Horan was the odd man out in a t-shirt.
There fashion sense might be a little questionable but there’s no doubting their status as the most successful boy band in the world. Their fourth LP — the appropriately-titled Four — delivered the year’s second-biggest sales tally after Taylor Swift‘s all-conquering 1989. (Take that 5 Seconds Of Summer!) The guys also won the American Music Award for favorite pop/rock album for their last opus Midnight Memories. See all their pics up top. More »
The 2014 American Music Awards got off to a thrilling start for Swifties on Sunday night (November 23), as Taylor Swift took the stage at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre L.A. Live and performed her latest 1989 single “Blank Space.” Adding a bit of dale to the evening was host Pitbull, who also slipped on his performing shoes when it came time to hit the stage for “Fireball.”
One particular highlight was Sam Smith‘s fantastic, flawless outing with “I’m Not The Only One.” He did what many of his contemporaries couldn’t do throughout the night: he sang without the aid of a backing vocal track. But without a doubt, it was Jennifer Lopez who stole the entire show with her jaw-dropping performance of “Booty.”

When your breakthrough hit is called “Fancy”, there’s extra pressure to look it on the red carpet. Charli XCX certainly rose to the occasion at tonight’s (November 23) American Music Awards in Los Angeles. She followed the trend of wearing a formal gown but still managed to sex things up with the garment’s very low cut. The 22-year-old is shaping up to be one of the game’s surprise glamour girls.
After heating up the red carpet, Iggy Azalea‘s recent collaborator hit the stage to perform new single “Break The Rules”. Thus far, it hasn’t caused much damage on the Billboard Hot 100 — the catchy jam actually hasn’t charted at all — but that could have more to do with radio still spinning her last hit “Boom Clap”. Charli’s crazy performance will no doubt be invaluable promo. Her much-anticipated sophomore LP Sucker drops December 16. More »
God bless, Jennifer Lopez. While most of the attendees of tonight’s (November 23) American Music Awards dressed like they were going to a funeral, the sexiest woman alive — it’s not even up for debate anymore — stunned onlookers by rocking a barely-there ensemble, which showcased the stunning diva’s legendary curves. She was hands-down the best-dressed on the night and single-handedly saved the red carpet. Can someone please give her an honorary award?
Apart from making jaws drop in the sexiest dress at the AMAs, J.Lo will also take to the stage to perform “Booty” with Iggy Azalea. The butt-themed club-banger has been the biggest hit from Jenny’s much-underrated A.K.A. LP, reaching the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 — mostly due to YouTube views of the eye-popping video. The pop legend also dropped an autobiography this year, which (of course) turned out to be a bestseller. See her gorgeous pics up top. More »
Nicki Minaj is known for her wild and wacky (and often barely-there) outfits but she rocked a relatively conservative ensemble at tonight’s (November 23) American Music Awards in Los Angeles. The femcee wore a little black dress with a difference. For starters, the material was sheer and it was cut-out at the side. Nevertheless, it’s probably the most boring gown in the her wardrobe. But she made it work.
The next couple of weeks are make-or-break for Nicki. While “Anaconda” was a huge hit, The Pinkprint era hasn’t been without a couple of stumbles. Lead single “Pills N Potions” flopped and she was recently slammed in the press for using Nazi imagery in her “Only” lyric video. Given the inroads Iggy Azalea has made this year, the 30-year-old really needs to bring it with her third LP. No doubt, she still has a couple of tricks up her sleeve. Check out her pics up top. Nick Jonas proved he looks just as good in formal wear as he does without a shirt or in underpants at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles tonight (November 23). He walked the red carpet in a stylish suit, which was double-breasted to the extreme with eight buttons. That’s going to be annoying to take of it’s warm inside the venue! Needless to say, the 22-year-old was easily the best-dressed man on the night.
2014 has been a breakthrough year for the former Jo Bros. Nick finally established himself as a solo star with smash hit “Jealous” (his first top 10 entry on the Billboard Hot 100) and self-titled LP. He also has a hit television series — the very sexy Kingdom — and has carved out a niche as the heartthrob du jour. The “Chains” hitmaker will release “Teacher” as his next single. He’s already teasing it with a semi-nude lyric video. Nice. See his red carpet pics up top. More »
Justin Bieber once described Selena Gomez as “the most elegant princess in the world” and it’s hard to disagree with his assessment given her stunning appearance at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles tonight (November 23). She oozed glamor in a figure-hugging, floor-length, backless black gown. (What a mouthful!) The 22-year-old added a flash of drama/color by wearing chunky gold earrings and bracelets.
Sel will perform new single “The Heart Wants What It Wants” for the very first time during the show. She already admitted to being nervous about singing the very personal song on Instagram but the former teen queen will, no doubt, get moral support from friends Taylor Swift and Ellie Goulding. The Rock Mafia-produced break-up anthem is the first (and probably only given that her contract with Disney is up) single from her greatest hits compilation For You (due November 24). More »
Well played, Meghan Trainor. The 20-year-old got in a little promotion for new single “Lips Are Movin” — which is already top 10 on iTunes and climbing the Billboard Hot 100 — on the red carpet at tonight’s (November 23) American Music Awards in Los Angeles. It was the perfect compliment to her cute little black dress, which showcased the rising diva’s girl-next-door appeal.
Meghan is nominated for Best New Artist Of The Year, which reflects her growing status in the music industry. The newcomer went all the way to number one with her debut single “All About That Bass” and stayed there for eight non-consecutive weeks. She even managed to keep the Taylor Swift juggernaut at bay for most of them. The chart performance of “Lips Are Movin” proves that that success was no fluke. Her debut LP Title is expected to drop on January 13. More »
