What’s better than one Ricky Martin? Five of them, obviously! The Latin heartthrob plays multiple characters in the prohibition-themed video for new single “Adios”. Set in a 1930s speakeasy, the Ethan Ladder-directed visual finds the 42-year-old performing on stage with a bunch of scantily-clad dancers (it’s his very own cabaret) but the real fun comes from his other roles.
There’s the creepy-moustache wearing Ricky that pours drinks behind the bar as well as policeman Ricky, bouncer Ricky and even mobster Ricky! “Adios” is the first single from the superstar’s 10th studio album (due early 2015). It will be his first full release since Musica + Alma + Sexo in 2011. Watch the entertaining video up top and check out the Spanish version after the jump. More »
Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX caught lightning in a bottle when the recorded “Fancy”. The summer smash topped the Billboard Hot 100 (several months ago now) but is still making waves in clubland thanks to a hugely popular bootleg from Jordy Dazz. The Dutch DJ was just using the remix in his sets but it took off when Hardwell and Tiesto started playing the heady electro-overhaul.
I’ve enjoyed a bunch of the official “Fancy” remixes but this is the wildest by far. After the first two minutes, you would be forgiven for mistaking the mix for an electro-house dub but then everything slows down and that familiar beat kicks in. From there, it’s a crazy electronic adventure that breathes new life into a song we’ve all heard several hundred times. Take a listen after the jump. More »
Gwen Stefani held a Twitter Q&A to promote new single “Baby Don’t Lie” last night (October 21) — it worked because the perky jam is lodged in the iTunes top 10 — and revealed some interesting tidbits to fans. Most excitingly, that her long-awaited third solo LP should drop before Christmas. “Hopefully if all goes well, sometime in Dec,” the comeback queen declared.
The flawless 45-year-old also confirmed that another No Doubt album is on the way (“we’re actually working on new music now”), said she would love to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar and declared that Jimmy Iovine has had the biggest impact on her career. Gwen also described hearing “Baby Don’t Lie” on the radio as “weird and surreal”. See her tweets after the jump. More »
Look, just don’t come between Taylor Swift and her baking, okay? (Or her New York City.)
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver learned the hard way after challenging the 1989 pop princess to a shake it — err, bake it off in support of the UK’s ongoing star-studded Stand Up To Cancer campaign.
In the very silly clip, Jamie puts Tay’s skills to the test, and she is not having any of his antics: Seriously, the side-eye, the disgust, the refusal to remember his name…she’s a chilling diva in the kitchen! But after his cheery, bake-ified rendition of her #1 hit “Shake It Off,” Swift can’t do anything but eventually give in and give us some of her signature silly moves. That is, until she unveils the creation she’d been working on. You might want to consider a different day job now, Jamie!) Watch the two playfully bicker and bake up top. More »

It seems like everyone is jumping on the Sam Smith fan bandwagon, with the latest artist being Kelly Clarkson! The singer and new mother covered the “Restart” crooner’s smash hit, “Stay With Me,” during her concert performance in Chicago last weekend. Her vocals are already stunning, but the soulful ballad highlighted them even more.
Clarkson isn’t the first (and probably not the last) to cover Smith’s tune. Jessie J, Ed Sheeran and FKA Twigs both tried their hands at it, while Mary J. Blige joined him for a duet version. Listen to Kelly Clarkson’s rendition after the jump. More »
Rixton‘s catchy “Wait On Me” single has a smooth R&B-inspired flair, but the song has now been spun into a club-ready jam! Cahill (an electronic group from Liverpool, UK) remixed the boy band’s song – taking away the melodic soul away and adding an heavy bassline, ear-splitting synths and intense drops.
“Wait On Me” is the follow-up to Rixton’s breakthrough single, “Me And My Broken Heart.” Both singles are from their debut album, Let The Road - out on January 6, 2015. Take a listen to the Cahill remix after the jump. More »
The 2014 MTV EMAs are shaping up to be something extra special this year.
Following the announcement of “Anaconda” diva Nicki Minaj taking hosting and performing duties on the main stage in Scotland on November 9 — where acts like Calvin Harris, Kiesza, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran are also scheduled to perform — there’s even more goodness happening stateside.
The U.S. telecast, airing live form Miami’s Klipsch Amphitheater, will see performances from “Jealous” pop prince and frequently near-naked boy wonder Nick Jonas, Jake Miller and the talented young BO$$E$ of Fifth Harmony. More »
Gwen Stefani follows up the release of her comeback single, “Baby Don’t Lie,” with its official music video! Directed by longtime collaborator Sophie Muller, the clip finds the singer (rocking her classic red lips and heels) walking through a neon-colored jungle. There’s is also a fun dance scene towards the end, which breaks the the monotony of the video.
The geometric and graphic animation is nothing new though – it’s been seen with videos like Beyonce‘s “Grown Woman,” Rihanna‘s “Rude Boy” and M.I.A.‘s “Boyz.” Stefani’s upcoming third solo LP is expected to be released in December, and according to this awesome “Spark The Fire” preview, Pharrell will be partnering up with the singer once again.
Popping Up is our recurring look at new artists making noise on the music landscape. Because, hey — Madonna and Britney were once unknown, too.
Jennifer Hudson knows it; Kiesza knows it; and Mary J. Blige definitely knows it: as far as popular music goes in 2014, London is where it’s at, and deep house is the name of the game. Recently we’ve shined our Popping Up spotlight on beat-heavy British acts ranging from Gorgon City to Clean Bandit to Route 94, and there’s always room for one more, provided the music is solid.
That brings us to UK dance duo Billon, who’ve steadily been earning a solid reputation by remixing artists like Katy B (“Still”), Yasmin (“Thinking About You”) and Ella Eyre (“If I Go”). The pair have also offered up a couple EPs in the past, and today (October 21) sees the stateside release of their brand new single “Special.”
Head below to find out how the guys partnered up with songwriter MNEK and singer Maxine Ashley for “Special,” and how the whole Billon project got started in the first place. More »
