Lana Del Rey‘s breezy new single “West Coast” is headed for a strong debut on Billboard’s Hot 100 next week. The atmospheric Dan Auerbach-produced anthem should land in the top 50 (it could go higher) on the back of 110,000 to 120,000 first-week download sales. It will become the Ultraviolence diva’s fourth entry on the countdown.

This is a promising debut for several reasons. Lana’s hasn’t promoted the song outside of her rambling Coachella set, radio airplay is currently minimal and there’s no video to prop up streaming numbers. When/if those factors change, the 27-year-old could have another “Summertime Sadness”-sized hit on her hands. If nothing else, it proves that the faithful is hungry for new material. More »

Apr 18th, 2014 // Comment

Happy Friday, Idolator readers! This week’s been full of scandal, shade and celebration: From Lana Del Rey‘s “West Coast” premiere, to Sky Ferreira‘s “I Blame Myself” video (which resulted in some backlash), to the announcement of Ariana Grande‘s new single “Problem” with femcee Iggy Azalea, to Iggy’s own “Black Widow” with Rita Ora (which had some people hearing Katy Perry‘s “Dark Horse”) to Miley‘s sudden hospitalization. Get well soon, Mileybird!

10 Year Old DJ Aiden Jude Releases His Debut Single “Tonight”

Martin Garrix Q&A
We interviewed Martin Garrix about "Animals" and Coachella. Read More »

At first I thought this was a belated April Fools’ joke but it turned out to be legit. There’s a 10-year-old DJ cooking up club bangers in New York City and his name is Aiden Jude. The tween has just released his debut single and it’s a surprisingly accomplished floorfiller called “Tonight”.

The dance anthem probably would have sounded better as an instrumental. “There’s a power in you I can not explain, taste it in our kiss,” sings the unknown diva over Aiden’s bouncy house beats before the track goes mental with a huge drop straight out of Martin Garrix‘s handbook. (“Tonight” does sound a lot like “Animals”). It kind of goes without saying that this is pretty incredible for a little kid. Martin Garrix Talks Coachella, His Ed Sheeran Collaboration & “Animals”: Idolator Q&A

Afrojack Q&A
Check out our interview with Dutch producer Afrojack. Read More »

Martin Garrix is arguably the break-out EDM star of 2014. The 17-year-old producer reached a new peak of number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week with bone-rattling club anthem “Animals”, which is a huge achievement under any circumstances but positively unheard of for an instrumental electro-house track.

I caught up with the Dutch DJ at Coachella, where he performed for the first time in the Sahara tent. Martin opened up about the unprecedented success of “Animals” (fun fact: it almost had a rap vocal), discussed his upcoming collaboration with Ed Sheeran and talked about his must-see acts at the Californian music festival. Sia’s New Album Has Been Christened ’1000 Forms Of Fear’

Talk about burying the lead. The New York Times revealed that Sia‘s long-awaited sixth LP is called 1000 Forms Of Fear in the final paragraph of an article published today (April 18). The album “reflects an older vintage of Sia, with sadder, brutal lyrics that are far too violent and introspective for Top 40 radio” according to the article’s author Steve Knopper.

However, he adds that “it also displays elements of Furler the pop-anthem writer”, which I guess is where (relatively) radio-friendly lead single “Chandelier” fits in. Four years have passed since the Australian singer’s last album (2010′s excellent We Are Born) and semi-retirement from the spotlight. Since then Sia has arguably become the hottest songwriter-for-hire in the business — having penned hits for Rihanna, David Guetta and Flo Rida among many others. More »

Austin Mahone unveiled the cover and tracklist of his debut mini-LP The Secret today (April 18) and there are some surprises. For starters, breakthrough single “What About Love” missed the cut as did hip-hop adventure “Banga Banga” and sweet ballad “U”. It does, however, include Pitbull-assisted club banger “Mmm Yeah” and new promo single “Til I Found You”.

The 18-year-old’s latest jam is actually pretty irresistible. Produced by RedOne, “Til I Found You” references the sound of ’90s hitmakers like The Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync. There are slick, retro beats and a power pop chorus that makes you want to play “Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)” on repeat. See Austin’s The Secret tracklist and listen to his new song after the jump. More »
