Avicii‘s heartstring-pulling “Hey Brother” video could be the Swedish DJ’s most audacious clip yet. Unlike his blockbuster “Wake Me Up” and “You Make Me” visuals, this effort has a strong narrative — showing the impact of war on a pair of siblings.
The clip shows the boys growing up with nostalgic scenes of camping, barbecues and sleepovers before the idyllic picture is shattered by the older brother being sent to war. Their family tragedy packs an emotional punch and it’s great to see Avicii make an unexpected last minute cameo. Watch up top. More »
Jordin Sparks has teamed up with The Young People’s Chorus Of New York to bring you an uplifting holiday anthem called “This Is My Wish”. The ballad is an innovative Christmas gift from Glade — yes, the air freshener company — and can be downloaded for free from their website.
The good-natured video finds our heroine wandering through a pine forest (well, a Christmas tree lot) with a young caroler before being joined by the whole chorus. There’s snow, smiling children and a gorgeous-looking Jordin Sparks. What more do you want? Watch up top. More »
Ke$ha‘s much-discussed rock album with The Flaming Lips (otherwise known as Lip$ha) never eventuated but fans can still hear the kooky collaborators on ”Elizabeth My Dear”. The meandering anthem, which also features New Fumes, is taken from the band’s track-for-track cover of The Stone Roses debut LP — a project they released on limited edition vinyl to support Record Store Day.
Much like Lady Dolla’s Heady Fwends collab with The Flaming Lips, “Elizabeth My Day” is a sprawling sonic adventure that takes the diva in a completely different direction from current iTunes chart-topper “Timber”. She sings softly over acoustic guitar and waves of feedback before groaning and howling like a woman possessed. Listen to the multi-faced pop warrior after the jump. More »
Everybody sitting down for this one? Good. In an interview with Hits Daily Double, Columbia Records chairman Rob Stringer (who has Adele and One Direction on his roster, so trust that he is a lot richer than you!) says that Beyonce will indeed release her new album next year. When, exactly? “At some point,” he says.
Here’s the full quote: “Then we’ve got Pharrell and Solange, and obviously, at some point Beyonce will put a record out, and when she does it will be monumental,” Stringer said. More »
Selena Gomez had a particularly bad day when KIIS Jingle Ball 2013 rolled into Los Angeles on Friday night (December 6). The 21-year-old experienced audio issues and was overheard swearing. The performance also brought her vocal chops into question but she effortlessly bounced back with a lovely acoustic rendition of “Naturally” last night (December 8).
The 21-year-old was a changed woman at the Seattle show. For starters, that unflattering Louise Brooks wig was discarded — and hopefully incinerated — in favor of her own long locks and she delivered consummate performance. The highlight was an adorable stripped back version of 2010 hit “Naturally”, which showcased her sweet live vocals. Watch up top. More »
Lupe Fiasco is doing the not-particularly-surprising thing and serving it up old school-style in the video for his new single “Old School,” which sees him reflecting on how his hometown of Chicago has changed from, y’know, the good ol’ days. Featuring an almost blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance from vocal guest Ed Sheeran, the video mostly takes place against animated backgrounds in Chi-Town, making good use of intercut footage to paint a portrait of how the city has evolved.
It’s a sweet and nostalgic clip that fits the breezy vibe of the song. More »
