You want a piece of Madonna? For a pretty penny, that’s exactly what you’ll get.
Julien’s Auctions announced yesterday that they’ll be holding an auction for “the largest collection of Madonna memorabilia from her personal and professional life ever” in November, including music video wardrobes, awards, handwritten personal notes — even financial documents.
So, what’s up for grabs? Lots! Highlights include the recent B-Day Girl’s S&M-inspired wardrobe from her V Magazine shoot with Katy Perry, Re-invention Tour costume pieces and nude photos from her Penthouse Magazine shoot. They’ve also got handwritten notes on tour choreography, working lyrics, as well as trophies from several award shows over the years, including the MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards.
And, if you really want to immerse yourself in all things Ciccone, there’s a personal make-up compact, a 1972 Junior High School yearbook — and even a 1988 day planner (that’s while she was recording Like A Prayer!), which includes “dates with then-husband Sean Penn as well as birthday reminders and holiday plans.” More »
Rita Ora is probably ruing the day she met Calvin Harris. Not only has the Scottish DJ blocked his ex-girlfriend from performing rising hit “I Will Never Let You Down” on television, he is rumored to have taken back the songs he wrote for her second album. Which has resulted in the “Black Widow” diva pushing the release date back to January 2015. Ouch.
The 23-year-old was questioned about her sophomore set while promoting her new fragrance in New York yesterday (August 19) and called the album a “moment of truth”. “It’s my love of pop mixed with my love of soul,” Rita told the Associated Press. She was much less forthcoming when asked about Calvin Harris. In fact, she turned around and walked away. Watch the awkward moment after the jump. More »
Radio is blackballing Fifth Harmony‘s fierce self-empowerment anthem “Bo$$” because the girls mention Michelle Obama in the lyrics — at least according to the song’s producer Wallpaper. “Regardless of the positive message some radio stations wont play @FifthHarmony BO$$ cus it has “Michelle Obama” in the lyrics,” he tweeted earlier today (August 20).
That was enough to mobilize outraged Harmonizers, who promptly got the hashtag #dontcensor5H trending worldwide. No stations have been named and shamed (as yet) but “Bo$$” is losing a little momentum at pop radio, so there could be something to it. Which is sad given the song’s inspirational message to get money and take charge of your life. See the hitmaker’s tweet and the best fan responses after the jump. More »
The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards are kicking off with a bang — a bang bang, that is!
As suspected following the announcement of both Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande as performers for the evening, the pop powerhouses will link up with Jessie J to perform their massive summer Max Martin collaborative banger, “Bang Bang.”
Of course, that’s not all: The accompanying Hannah Lux Davis-directed music video — sponsored by Beats by Dr. Dre and Target — will drop immediately after on MTV. And get your dancing shoes on, because the clip apparently includes “an easy-to-learn dance that the British songstress made up.”
You ready for all that? Let us know if you’re excited for all the “Bang Bang” madness coming up in the comments below. More »
Emmie Lichtenberg‘s life is one big slumber party, and if you’re lucky — like ASTR‘s Zoe recently was — you get to crash it. The “Blue Hawaii” singer hit up Myspace’s web series Slumber Party @ emmieshouse to talk (what else?) late-night massages and favorite pizza toppings…and that was all before the game of Truth Or Dare began.
Zoe eventually wound up blindfolded and put to the task of guessing the flavor of Warhead candies. She also confessed her crush on hip hop heartthrob Drake and…well, you know what — what happens at slumber parties should stay at slumber parties. So just watch all the pajama-fueled action above and see for yourself! More »
With their upcoming EP Oblivion on the way, British indie pop band Bastille has dropped their latest eerie number “Bad News,” which now has a similarly peculiar video to go along with it.
The clips takes us on a dizzying journey through a kaleidoscope of old images, cartoons, and creepy mouths singing the song’s lyrics. The band’s frontman Dan Smith walks down different corridors, as grainy, dimly-lit footage slips in and out and the visual becomes more and more uncomfortable and perplexing by the second. Nevertheless, it’s seems almost impossible to tear your eyes away. More »
