Azealia Banks’ “Chasing Time” Gets A Really, Really Good Rich Morel Remix: Listen

Azealia Banks shows off her dance moves in the black-and-white "Chasing Time" video.

Azealia Banks is giving away $10,000 for the best remix of “Chasing Time” as part of a new competition to promote debut LP Broke With Expensive Taste. The ’90s house-referencing floorfiller is already pretty hard to beat as far as club monsters go, so fans and producers — the comp is also open to professionals — really have their work cut out for them. One of the best overhauls to appear on SoundCloud belongs to veteran DJ Rich Morel.

The Boston-based producer is probably best-known for his work with electronic duo Deep Dish and for producing some of the best tracks (“Same Ol’ Story”,”Raging Storm” and “Set Your Heart”) on Cyndi Lauper‘s dance opus Bring Ya To The Brink. He strips the ’90s flourishes from “Chasing Time” and pumps up the BPM. What’s left is one hell of house anthem that is at least as good as Azealia’s original. Listen after the jump. More »

Ariana Grande Responds To Bette Midler’s Shade

Bette Midler Disses Ariana Grande
Bette Midler Disses Ariana Grande
Bette Midler described Ariana Grande as "ridiculous" and criticized her "silly voice".

Bette Midler opened the library and read Ariana Grande like a book in a recent interview with The Telegraph. “It’s always surprising to see someone like Ariana Grande with that silly high voice, a very wholesome voice, slithering around on a couch… looking so ridiculous,” she said of the “Love Me Harder” diva, before declaring: “You don’t have to make a whore out of yourself to get ahead.” Ouch!

The 21-year-old finally responded today (November 25) with a passive aggressive tweet. “Bette was always a feminist who stood for women being able to do whatever the F they wanted without judgement!” she wrote. “Not sure where that Bette went but I want that sexy mermaid back!!! Always a fan no matter what my love.” Ariana also included a picture of the pop legend wearing a bikini as a little dig. See her tweet after the jump. More »

Rihanna Just Surprised Everyone With A New Song Preview: Listen To A Snippet

Rihanna Rejected All Calvin Harris Songs
Rihanna Rejected All Calvin Harris Songs
The singer didn't add the producer's song choices to her new album.

Hold on to your wigs, #RihannaNavy! Rihanna just pulled a fast (and highly unexpected) move on Instagram, choosing to switch out her usual sexy selfies for an actual song snippet! Yes, this is NOT a drill!

The brief preview only lasts for a few seconds, but it is just enough of a tease to hold us over for what’s to come from the Bajan songstress. It features a looping and ominous hook (“Ain’t none of this shit promised/Ain’t none of this promised) over a wobbly, alt-R&B production. No words when #R8, the nickname for Rihanna’s eighth LP, will be released — but let’s just hope it’ll be a Christmas treat.

Future Hit: Years & Years Go Full House With “Desire” — Watch The Video

Years & Years Desire music video
Love Or Lust?
Gorgon City Talk The UK House Scene: Interview
Gorgon City Talk The UK House Scene: Interview
The British duo discuss their debut album and the house scene.

UK-based trio Years & Years have followed up their Real EP with brand new single “Desire,” a stomping, whomping house track that could just see them go from emergent dance act opening for Sam Smith on tour to bona fide hit-makers before long. “Desire” comes packed with an irresistible chorus, a soul-grabbing house hook and a dramatic music video directed by Sing J Lee, who also lensed Gorgon City‘s “Ready For Your Love” and Chvrches“The Mother We Share.”

“Is it desire or is it love that I’m feeling for you,” Years & Years frontman Olly Alexander ponders  on the chorus of “Desire.” A press release describes the track as conveying the “cyclical conflict of being a slave to desire and the blurring between the lines of lust and love.” Sounds pretty accurate to us. Jessie J And Ariana Grande Are NOT Remaking Brandy And Monica’s “The Boy Is Mine”

AMAS 2014: Watch The Performances
Watch Nicki, Jessie & Ari perform "Bang Bang" live at the AMAs.

You can either breathe easy or let out a great sigh of disappointment, because Jessie J and Ariana Grande are not teaming up to remake Brandy and Monica‘s R&B classic, “The Boy Is Mine.”

Despite the fact that Darkchild seemingly confirmed the collaboration for his upcoming 20th anniversary project, according to the UK’s Mirror, Jessie J quickly shot down those rumors herself on the American Music Awards red carpet. In fact, she even went so far as to reach out to Brandy about the idea.

“No, it’s not true, neither of us have agreed. Sadly people are believing it. I spoke to Brandy and I was like, ‘no it’s not happening’. Monica and Brandy are the best,” she said. It would be odd for Darkchild to dream up a collaboration without asking either of the participants, but that seems like a pretty stone-cold “no” on Jessie’s part, right? Ah, well. Maybe he was just listening to too much “Bang Bang.” More »

Selena Gomez Has Already Started Recording Her New Album For Interscope Records

Selena Gomez's 'For You': Album Review
Selena Gomez's 'For You': Album Review
We reviewed Selena Gomez's career-covering greatest hits compilation 'For You'.

Selena Gomez clearly doesn’t believe in resting on your laurels. After generating an avalanche of praise for her emotional performance of “The Heart Wants What It Wants” at Sunday night’s (November 23) American Music Awards, the 22-year-old would be forgiven for taking a minute to soak up the triumph. Instead, she’s already in the studio working on her next album. And the baby-faced diva is using her current hit single as a reference point.

“It’s exciting for me to start off with something like ['The Heart Wants What It Wants']” she revealed in a radio interview. “And then start leading into writing about all the other things that are going on in my life and have gone on in the past year or so.” It’s obvious that Selena is taking a very different approach for her first project with Interscope Records. “I’m excited to put more of my heart and soul into the next chapter of music.” The LP, which is expected to drop mid-2015, is shaping up to be a blockbuster.  More »

Gwen Stefani is joined by Pharrell in her wild and zany "Spark The Fire" video. Check it out.

Gwen Stefani‘s music comeback continues to gain momentum with news that she recorded a new song called “Shine” for the Paddington soundtrack with frequent collaborator Pharrell. “What a wonderful opportunity, as a parent, to contribute to something as classic, authentic and generational to all of our lives, as Paddington Bear,” the “Happy” hitmaker declared. The track is likely to be a US exclusive given that the film opened in the UK this week without it.

While we wait for “Shine” to drop, make sure you check out the duo’s other collaboration “Spark The Fire”. The zany hip-hop/pop anthem surfaced online over the weekend and Gwen teased the video during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show yesterday (November 24). It’s nice to see the veteran diva is getting in some early promo. “Baby Don’t Lie” would have performed a lot better if it was supported by a couple of interviews and live performances. More »
