Andre 3000 was recently in the studio with… someone other than Big Boi. Again. The ATLien took a photo with the alien Future, but there’s no word on whether this was related to Future’s forthcoming album Honest. Of course, this is exciting news, because it’s exciting any time Three Stacks may be making one of his rare appearances on the mic. But ultimately, this is disappointing, because all we want is a photo of Dre with Big Boi confirming those Outkast reunion rumors.
For now, photos of Outkast’s recent hangout in Atlanta will have to do. Anyway, check out Future’s Instagram post below. More »
Little Mix have given the soulful midtempo “Little Me” the single treatment as the next offering from their excellent sophomore LP Salute (not coming out in America until next year, but whatever), and the girls have turned out a televised performance of the track, giving it their all on The Paul O’Grady Show last night.
Going heavy with the fog machines for a steamy, ambient effect (not sure how exactly that matches up with the twinkling Christmas tree in the background, but who cares?), the point is that they looked and sounded better than ever — more grown-up and polished, with vocals that show their singing competition roots. After setting the charts on fire in Australia, Havana Brown is finally ready to unleash platinum-selling dance smash “Warrior” upon American clubs. The bone-rattling floorfiller hits iTunes on December 17 and will be promptly followed by the EDM queen’s debut LP in early 2014.
The blond bombshell dropped by the Idolator studio last week to chat about her new single and revised US edition of Flashing Lights (she was recently in the studio with RedOne and Darkchild). Havana also opened up about working with Pitbull and spilled the tea on cult classic “Big Banana”. Watch up top. More »
Austin Mahone is working on shedding his good boy tag with a relatively edgy new hip-hop sound and image overhaul. Take new video “Banga! Banga!”. The 17-year-old chats up a pretty girl, hangs out in a skate park and poses in front of graffiti art. It’s pretty tame but the message is clearly — I’m all grown up!
Of course, he doesn’t push the envelope too far. The colors are bright and cartoonish, and Austin is still performing his trademark choreography. There’s an awkward rap interlude (why is a grown man driving around a park populated by kids? Creepy!) but, over all, it’s a step in the right direction. Watch up top. More »
After her milkshake brought all the boys to the yard, Kelis is prepping a proper feast with her next LP Food. Now signed to UK indie label Ninja Tune, the R&B innovator will release her album on April 28; production comes courtesy of TV On The Radio songsmith Dave Sitek, who has also worked with Oh Land and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
A lengthy press release accompanying the announcement has a lot to say about Food, which is described as “a soul record that’s as raw and alternative as it is classic.” Sounds delicious. More »
The ladies of UK girl group Neon Jungle continue to set themselves apart from the pack with the video for their new single “Braveheart,” one of the most blisteringly cool dance-pop singles in a long while. Following up their excellent debut single “Trouble” and their debut televised stateside performance (last night on the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show), the four-piece act have stepped up their game even further with “Braveheart,” which is weird, dark, pummeling and thoroughly out-of-the-box.
Produced by More Mega (who also helmed Havana Brown‘s ubiquitous “We Run The Night”), the song sounds like a ravey radio smash in the making, and the video is a perfect complement; featuring the girls in darkened, red-and-green-hued spaces and also, inexplicably, a lion (why not?), they’re proving their mettle as the most intimidatingly fierce girl group around.
