Chvrches have made a nice little side-career covering other artists, and now the Scots have covered themselves. For the deluxe reissue of their highly enjoyable debut The Bones Of What You Believe, the trio have remixed the LP’s three marquee tracks, turning “The Mother We Share,” “Recover” and “Gun” into plaintive bits of dream-pop. The synths in all three take a back seat to Lauren Mayberry’s vocals this time, thus highlighting the subtle emotions that she’s able to evoke with her instrument.

The chipper and pulsating “Mother” has been transformed into a swaying ballad, and “Recover” likewise has been toned down with a bed of atmospheric Atari electronics. And the once-jittery kiss-off “Gun” is nearly unrecognizable, sounding even more deceptively sweet than before.

One Direction are releasing “You & I” as their fourth single from their third album Midnight Memories, and today (April 16) they’ve posted a teaser for the ballad’s music video. The 40-second clip is black and white, and depicts the guys on a pier looking longingly into the camera and horsing around as usual. But fear not! In a voiceover, they promise they’re “doing something very different on this video.” So we’ll have to wait and see exactly what that entails.

The visual was directed by frequent 1D collaborator Ben Winston, and it premieres Friday. Check out the preview below. More »

KidinaKorner associate Mike Del Rio is known for writing and/or producing cuts for other artists, like Christina Aguilera‘s “Make The World Move,” Skylar Grey and Eminem‘s “C’mon Let Me Ride” and, most recently, Kylie Minogue’s lead Kiss Me Once single “Into The Blue.” But the 27-year-old musician also lends his talents to his own duo, POWERS, fronted by fellow singer-songrwiter Crista Ru (aka Crista Russo, who, along with Del Rio, penned Selena Gomez‘s “Birthday”).

Given such an illustrious pop pedigree, you’re probably curious to hear what these two sound like when putting their musical minds together for their own material. Today Idolator is premiering POWERS’ crunchy electro stomper “Touch The World,” which features a thick bassline, throbbing synths and Crista Ru’s breathy talk-singing, over both the verses and a chorus that you’ll be hard-pressed to get out of your head after just one listen.

Coldplay Take Us Behind The Scenes Of Their Blockbuster “Magic” Video: Idolator Premiere

Coldplay debuts the circus-themed video for new single "Magic". Read More »

Coldplay really upped the visual ante with their Jonas Åkerlund-directed “Magic” video. The circus-themed opus tells the story of a glamorous 1920s-era magician (brought to life by Chinese actress Ziyi Zhang), who finds herself in the middle of an emotional tug-of-war between her abusive husband and charming assistant — both played with great flair by Chris Martin.

The British superstars now invites you behind the scenes of their blockbuster visual with a must-see ‘making of’ documentary. It’s fascinating to watch the video come together and, let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to see Coldplay’s plucky frontman suspended on wires or spinning on a wheel while the star of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon pretends to throw knives at him? Check it out up top. More »

Future’s ‘Honest’: Stream The Full Album

Apr 16th, 2014 // Comment
future honest deluxe cover

Future is streaming his long-delayed, highly anticipated album Honest ahead of its April 22 release. We could spend a whole post just talking about the features — there’s Kanye West, Pharrell, Drake, Lil Wayne, Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa and even Andre 3000 (although, that last one was purposely left off the stream) — but it’s more rewarding to absorb the project as a whole.

It’s such a varied and sprawling offering, going from the cold-as-fuck “Move That Dope” on one end of the spectrum to the doting “I Won” on the other end, and it covers just about everything else in between. It’s the type of thing that could only be pulled off by this robo-crooning, hollering, ATL trap astronaut.

Pharrell Becomes A Balladeer On “Here”: Listen

Pharrell is looking to keep his soundtrack streak alive with “Here,” from The Amazing Spider-Man 2‘s soundtrack. While he was behind the scenes for Alicia Keys and Kendrick Lamar‘s “It’s On Again” from the film, for this one he’s the primary vocalist, teaming up once again with his G I R L friend Hans Zimmer on the arrangement.

And, whoa. This is no lean funk pastiche or disco-cheez revival — it’s a straight-up soft rock ballad, with Pharrell legit crooning like he’s a long-lost member of Savage Garden or some shit. It’s a tad jarring, but it proves that even after “Move That Dope,” the guy is as mom-friendly as ever.
