Jordin Sparks Talks Split With Jason Derulo On ‘Wendy Williams’: Watch

Shake It Off!

Jason Derulo has been all over the media discussing his recent breakup with Jordin Sparks, but now it’s time for Sparks to tell her side of the story. The singer-actress made an appearance on Wendy Williams yesterday (October 1), and chatted with the host about how she’s handling it all.

The “11:11 (Wish)” chanteuse did agree the couple set themselves up for the media fiasco, due to PDA-filled videos for songs like “Marry Me.” As for the BMW he gifted her? “I haven’t really had time to think about it, but I’ll probably give it back. Hey, he can have it!”

But Sparks does have a reason to throw shade. According to The Daily Mail, Derulo was not faithful to her. The news site claims the “Talk Dirty” singer had an affair with video model Carmen Ortega (who has also been linked to Reggie Bush and Lebron James). Messy! More »

‘Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B’ Trailer Features Iggy Azalea’s “Goddess”: Watch

The Princess of R&B?

Lifetime’s debut trailer for its forthcoming Aaliyah biopic, Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, reveals a star in the making. The R&B singer, played by Nickelodeon actress Alexandra Shipp, sits in her bedroom as her mother Diane Haughton tells her exactly what to do: “It takes more than some hot producer to create a superstar. It takes the right artist.”

Such suspense is to be expected of a biopic trailer. What’s more surprising, though, is the clip’s featured song. Instead of an Aaliyah track like “One in a Million,” “Are You That Somebody,” or “Try Again,” Lifetime chose to feature Iggy Azalea‘s “Goddess,” one of her more confident songs off her 2014 debut The New Classic (“Goddess / Got it?”).

On one hand, the network’s decision could be a savvy choice to draw (likely younger) viewers in to watch the biopic, which airs November 15. But it also recalls the videos on Instagram that Zendaya Coleman, who was originally cast as Aaliyah, posted to explain why she dropped out of the role. More »

Harry Styles Helps Fan’s Marriage Proposal At One Direction Concert: Watch

What Makes Them Beautiful

One Direction fans kept a close eye on social media as the boy band stopped in Atlanta on October 1 to perform at the city’s Georgia Dome. A few days earlier, Bradley Chisenhall signed up for Twitter and asked a Directioner for help: He wanted to propose to his girlfriend during the concert, and he needed One Direction’s attention to do so.

Fans spread the word for several days via #1DProposal, and the night of the concert, their feeds flooded with footage of #1D Proposal actually happening. In between songs, Harry Styles asked if Bradley was in the audience. Bradley got down on one knee. His girlfriend said yes (obviously), to screams throughout the arena.

One Direction’s stop in Atlanta was already a big deal, as the “Steal My Girl” stars were the first boy band to play the Georgia Dome since *NSYNC in 2001. Now, though, Bradley’s stunt has set a brand new relationship standard for Directioners around the world. “EVERY GIRL DESERVES SOMEONE LIKE BRADLEY,” @cityburnstyles, the Twitter user that Bradley first contacted, said later last night.

A Bluegrass Cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” Has Surfaced The Internet, And It’s Awesome

OMG, Look At That Banjo!

Nicki Minaj‘s booty anthem “Anaconda” is already cheeky – both literally and figuratively (did you see the NSFW video?). But who would’ve thought the rapper’s song could be transformed into a honky-tonk romp?

Postmodern Jukebox, a band known for their fun takes on famous pop tunes, stripped Minaj’s single from its hip-hop roots and placed their own bluegrass spin on it – and it’s actually pretty good!

Lead singer Robyn Adele Anderson dons pigtails and denim overalls as she casually sings the nonsensical lyrics, while the banjo player and a Chihuahua (what?) get down in the background. The catchy cover will definitely make you want to dust off your cowboy boots and head to the nearest hoedown. Watch Lorde Get Filleted On ‘South Park’ (Warning: “She Isn’t As Hot In Person”)

Lorde South Park Gluten Free Ebola 2014
Watch Video

Depending on how easily offended you are, South Park‘s Wednesday (October 1) night episode, “Gluten Free Ebola,” was either very timely or very ill-advised. Anyway, Lorde made an appearance — albeit series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone‘s rendition of Lorde, who only shows up to warble on stage for a few brief seconds at a party near the tail-end of the episode.

But seriously — forget the Song Of The Year Grammy. Getting shaded by South Park? Looks like the “Yellow Flicker Beat” singer has finally arrived. More »

For the upcoming Outsider’s Edition re-release of album A Perfect Contradiction in the UK, Paloma Faith is offering up several new songs. Ed Sheeran Covers Hozier’s Breakthrough Hit “Take Me To Church”: Watch His Killer ‘Live Lounge’ Performance

Ed Gets Spiritual

Ed Sheeran dropped by BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge yesterday (September 30) and performed a typically brilliant cover of Hozier‘s breakthrough hit “Take Me To Church”. The Irish singer/songwriter’s gut-wrenching anthem, which is steadily climbing the Billboard Hot 100, is a perfect fit for the ginger genius and he manages to put his own spin on a song that doesn’t exactly lend itself to new interpretations.

As interesting and well-executed as Ed’s hip-hop/soul experiments are, I still prefer him in acoustic mode. (+ > x = sorry!) “Take Me To Church” provides a fertile middle ground for the 23-year-old. The backing vocalists/gospel elements fit in nicely with his new sound but the bare bones arrangement stays true to his roots. Watch the versatile hitmaker do his thing up top. More »

Actress Hayley Kiyoko Drops Enchanting Electro-Pop Single “This Side Of Paradise”: Listen

Hayley Kiyoko is the latest in a very long line of starlets (she is perhaps best known for Disney movie Lemonade Mouth) to dabble in music but her approach — and the end result — couldn’t be more atypical. The 23-year-old, who was recently cast in a big-screen adaptation of Jem And The Holograms, makes music in her parents’ LA basement and opts from ethereal, indie-leaning electro-pop.

Co-produced by James Flannigan, new single “This Side Of Paradise” is enchantingly soft and subtle. “I’ve got better luck in my head, playing poker with the dead,” sings Hayley over gentle layers of synths. It’s all very atmospheric and mysterious but doesn’t skimp on hooks or the memorable chorus. Listen to the title track of the budding diva’s upcoming EP after the jump. More »
